Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanssy Romero.
Hanssy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in the beauty industry started at a very young age, I always have had love/passion for makeup. I actually have videos when I was only three years old, playing with makeup. LOL!!
I would sneak into my mom’s room when she would leave for work (I was around 9 years old)
I would put makeup on for school and I would just experiment and teach myself, I started to branch out to videos. I would watch a lot of Nicole Guerriero videos in her early YT day, learning a lot from her.
Well from there one day I got caught from my mom and she actually supported it, in a way lol.. but she started me on a skincare regimen, she bought me skincare to the best of her knowledge, she had joined “MaryKay” at some point and I would love to help her and watch how she would host parties in our home with her friends – from there my love for skincare, it just grew.
I said “well if I wanted to wear makeup, I have to take care of my skin”
In high school, I would do side gigs, doing my friend’s makeup, also while putting them on skin care products.
I started to work at 16 years old at Winn Dixie as a cashier, then to front desk, also working a side gig at a concession stand in a baseball park. By 18, I graduated high school, started college and started a new job at a Pediatric Dentist office, life happened and I put college on pause, decided I wanted to go to a beauty academy and enrolled myself in Dec. 2017, I was licensed and graduated by April 2018. By 2019, I started working at a Law firm as a legal secretary and moved up to a paralegal within a year of being there. I enrolled back in College to obtain my Paralegal certification/degree. Oct. 2020, I felt as if something was still missing in the aspect of my career, I wanted more and to make more income, my best friend Annie pushed me back to get back there and I eventually started my business part-time…
I would see my client’s in my home, I made space in my apartment and would service them, up until Dec. 2021 I decided I no longer wanted to work for anyone, I decided I no longer wanted to work in toxic workplaces. I was over it.
So, I decided to take a leap of faith and go full-time in my business and fully dedicate time to it. After all, it’s what brought me the most passion and joy. By January/February 2022, I was doing mobile services until my studio was done in May. I am now located in the storefront of Lavish Hair & Co.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! haha, nope not at all. Doing this “entrepreneur” life is NOT easy! Financially, mentally, emotionally, everything! It IS tough, but it is not impossible with the right mindset, having the right people by your side & knowing who you surround yourself with.
I went into to this with no knowledge, like nothing at all, but I always reminded myself when I have hit hard times/obstacles in my life how I got through them, and I never gave up. That’s the same motivation I gave/give myself till this very present day, when it came to this.
I remind myself that nothing in life you want comes easy, you work for it, and you do NOT give up, especially when it comes to something you dream of, because those rewards you obtain at the end is so beautiful… like seriously. Overall, tough times are only temporary — to me it’s all perspective and how you see things, how you go about it, are you going to keep going? Or are you going to stop now and fold? You have to choose your battles.
You also have to prioritize what’s truly important, at some point you have to let go of a lot of things that no longer serve you while being on entrepreneurship journey. And whoever is on your side doesn’t get it? understand it? let them go! You will eventually attract the right people on your journey, it’s scary yes, but you will appreciate it at the end. trust me.
I have to thank a few inspirations/role models in my life… those people are my father, who always taught me that no matter how hard you fall, you always get back on your feet, and you will come back stronger! You will view life on a more positive note.
My partner Percy, who at his early twenties, quit his 9-5 job to become a very influential and inspiring YouTuber, content creator and is very successful in the Honda community and lastly, Alejandra, who is the owner of Lavish Hair & Co. She started her business so young and always had such a positive influence on my life, in the career aspect of it especially, she took her talents and ran with them, becoming her own boss so early on, now being a storefront owner of Lavish. Overall, they truly have given me such inspiration that if they can do it, so can I.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed esthetician who specializes in facials, makeup, also in waxing, lashes and brows.
I am mainly focused in the skincare, as I love to help those who struggle with their skin concerns/problems, making them feel comfortable in their natural beauty and just enhancing it, helping achieve healthy skin more than anything.
I am most proud of helping people out, making sure they are getting the most amazing experience in my treatment room, making loving and positive connections with my clients, that they feel comfortable and they not only come to see me for their services but to be an ear to them and help them in the most I can.
What sets me apart from others is that I do my own thing, I do not follow through anyone’s footsteps, I am my own leader and cheerleader. I ride my own wave. I am very supportive in the most possible way I can be to others, especially to those who are in the same industry as I am, because I remember the times when I needed some extra help, wether it was new techniques, knowledge or just every reassurance. I always say we are all teachers and students to each other, I believe we should all be here to help each other grow and to win together, there’s enough prosperity for everyone to share around. I love to see people thrive, succeed and win, it makes me extremely happy! to see others happy is amazing.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
TO anyone wanting to chase their dreams, or currently is, do NOT give up, keep going, keep pushing, head high; it’s truly beautiful once you get to other side. You’ll thank yourself when you get to look back at everything you did to get to where you wanted to be, it’ll be so rewarding.
