Today we’d like to introduce you to Hattie Inese
Hi Hattie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Detroit, MI, I grew up in a challenging environment shaped by my parents’ struggles with addiction. From a young age, I needed an escape, a way to cope with the harsh realities around me. The arts became that refuge—a space where I could lose myself and find solace. I fell in love with music, production, and dance, but I didn’t dare dream about the future. In truth, I didn’t expect to live long enough to have one.
As I entered adulthood, I carried that same sense of detachment, lacking confidence and navigating life without a real connection to my experiences. I avoided confronting the pain and trauma of my past, choosing instead to block it out. Then, during my senior year of college, I had a vivid dream—one where I stood alongside other creatives, using our gifts for a greater purpose. I didn’t yet understand what that purpose was, but I decided to take a leap of faith and follow the vision.
That decision marked the beginning of my healing journey, though I didn’t realize it at the time. It wasn’t until five years later that I could look back and see how far I’d come. As the vision became clearer, so did the intensity of my healing process. With each step forward, I began to confront the pain I had long avoided, finding strength and clarity in my creative expression.
Today, my artistry is a reflection of my journey toward peace, healing, and self-awareness. My work is about more than just the art itself—it’s about the message. Through my gifts, I share a message of empowerment, grounded in the belief that true transformation begins within. If we, as individuals, look inward, embrace our truths, and start the work of healing ourselves, we can begin to heal the world around us.
This is my purpose: to spread love, healing, and community through my art. My experiences have shaped me into the woman I am becoming, and I hope to serve as a reminder to others that embracing all parts of yourself is the first step toward growth. Through my creative journey, I’ve learned that the power to change the world starts from within—and I choose to share that truth through my art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. My journey has been filled with challenges, but each one has shaped me into who I am today. Growing up in an environment with parents who struggled with addiction brought instability and emotional wounds that I carried into adulthood. I didn’t realize how much those early experiences impacted my sense of self-worth and my ability to connect with others. For a long time, I avoided addressing that pain, numbing myself to the reality of it all.
One of the biggest struggles was overcoming my own mindset. I lacked confidence and carried a deep fear of failure, which made it difficult to take risks or even believe I had a purpose worth pursuing. I often felt like I was just going through the motions, disconnected from life and the people around me.
When I decided to walk out the vision I had for my life, the healing process began—but it wasn’t easy. I was forced to confront parts of myself I had ignored for years. Memories and emotions I had buried started to resurface, and there were times when the weight of it all felt unbearable. It was like peeling back layers of an onion; every layer revealed another part of myself that needed healing.
Another challenge was finding my voice as an artist. Early on, I struggled with imposter syndrome and questioned whether my story was worth sharing. There were moments when I doubted whether my art could really make an impact or if it would resonate with others. On top of that, navigating the logistics of turning my creative vision into reality—managing resources, building relationships, and balancing my personal healing with professional goals—was often overwhelming.
But through it all, I learned the power of perseverance. Every struggle taught me something valuable, whether it was patience, resilience, or the importance of community. The process of healing and growth is messy and uncomfortable, but it’s also where the most profound transformation happens. Now, I see those challenges as stepping stones that led me to where I am today. They taught me that the journey isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being authentic and staying committed to the process.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in using the arts as a tool for healing and empowerment. My work spans various forms of creative expression—music, production, and dance—all of which I use to tell stories that inspire self-awareness, love, and growth. My focus is on helping individuals tap into their inner strength, embrace their uniqueness, and begin their own journeys of healing.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to create spaces where people can feel seen, heard, and understood. One of my greatest achievements is producing live events that combine poetry, dance, and music to not only entertain but also leave audiences with a deeper sense of purpose and connection. These productions bring together artists from diverse backgrounds who share their stories of resilience and self-discovery. Seeing the impact these stories have on others is a constant reminder of why I do this work.
What sets me apart is the authenticity and intentionality I bring to everything I create. My work isn’t just about art for art’s sake—it’s deeply rooted in my personal experiences and my desire to help others transform their pain into purpose. I don’t shy away from the raw, messy parts of life because that’s where true healing begins. This vulnerability creates a connection that resonates with others, whether they’re fellow creatives or audience members.
Another unique aspect of my work is the way I merge different disciplines—music, dance, production—into a cohesive message of healing and empowerment. I strive to make every project a reflection of not just my journey but also a universal message: that healing begins within. I believe that when individuals heal and grow, they create a ripple effect that touches their communities and the world at large.
Ultimately, what I do is about more than just creating art—it’s about creating moments that remind people of their own power to transform and thrive.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future center on expanding the reach and impact of my work in the arts and healing. I want to create more platforms where people can experience the transformative power of creative expression. This includes producing more live productions, launching workshops, and offering programs that merge art with personal development. I’m passionate about bringing these opportunities to underserved communities, where access to such experiences can be life-changing.
One big change I’m looking forward to is growing my organization, Creative Healing Through the Arts, into a cornerstone resource for emotional healing and empowerment. I envision a space where people from all walks of life can explore their creativity while addressing personal challenges in a supportive environment. This might include partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and community centers to offer arts therapy workshops and mentorship programs.
I’m also planning to dive deeper into collaboration, working with other artists and visionaries who share a passion for using their gifts to inspire positive change. I believe that collaboration multiplies impact, and I’m excited to create with others who want to amplify the message of healing, self-love, and growth.
In addition, I’m exploring ways to document and share my journey through written and visual storytelling. Whether it’s through a book, a documentary, or digital content, I want to continue connecting with people on a personal level, showing that healing and empowerment are possible for everyone.
Ultimately, my goal is to continue evolving—both as an artist and as a person. I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, reaching new audiences, and leaving a legacy that encourages others to embrace their gifts, heal from within, and contribute to a world where love and community thrive.
