Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Marchena. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Born in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, Hector Marchena are a singer/songwriter, musician, guitarist, producer, and performer living in The Bronx, New York City, where his music career has grown and developed. Since he was 5 years old, he showed a huge interest in all sounds and melodies coming from music, leading to him learning full songs at 6 and singing non-stop. At age 15, he formally started his music education at a Music Academy where he learned music theory and quickly became part of the academy’s choir.
Fast forward to age 17 after graduating high school, where he got the bigger calling, the real thing, and started in-depth exploring singing and vocal technique. But that was not it; he became increasingly attracted to songwriting, guitar playing, and performing live while teaching himself how to play guitar with his already-obtained music knowledge and writing his first songs throughout that summer. This is why, at age 18, he decided to get a bachelor’s in jazz performance and composition, where he had the chance further to explore his influences and the beauties of live music. Born in the Dominican Republic but musically raised by the streets, bars, and venues of New York City, his primary influences are Latin, tropical, and bohemian, with a mix of rock, ballads, jazz, and pop. He identifies his music proposal as “Alternative/Tropical-Bohemian.”
He’s opened shows and shared the stage with artists such as Pavel Nunez, Zeo Munoz, and Pamela, even though his music career started in the Bronx and upper Manhattan and stayed there for a while. Later, it extended to midtown and the rest of the boroughs in New York City. Currently, he’s actively performing in other States, with Massachusetts, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey being some of them. To spread his music to many more States and even other countries, Marchena will keep releasing what promises to be enjoyable, quality music, and food for the soul, for all kinds of crowds, from Spanish to non-Spanish speakers all alike. There will always be something for everyone.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
It’s been full of ups and downs, lots of teaching moments, mistakes, challenges, and experiences that have brought me to where I am today, and there’s still much more to learn! The biggest struggle was to create stage presence/confidence and make my shows unforgettable. That took years of performing live and connecting with crowds to loosen up and feel confident and comfortable on a stage enough to involve people in the performance and make it more than a show, a whole experience. And, of course, getting more shows! It was a challenge to make myself noticed by more businesses, venues, fans, cities, States, etc. It took lots of work, teaks, adapting, and investing in quality content to make my proposal and project look more legit and attractive. It takes time and effort to learn what people are looking for and be able to capture it in quality pictures, videos, and content that help you sell what you do more effectively.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer-songwriter and do concerts and live performances in over 5 States. I specialize in tropical, bohemian, pop, rock, ballads, and many more genres. What I’m most proud of is that I bring people joy and make them have a genuinely good time. What sets me apart from others is that there’s only one of every one of us, only one you, only one me, and that’s what makes all of us special.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Every project, work, result, and anything on that matter that we accomplish in life is a blessing. Only discipline (and everything that it involves) can get you there. Our discipline and consistency are the recipes that enable us to see ourselves exactly where and how we want to see ourselves. There will be challenges, highs, and lows, especially hurtful, hard lows, many of them, but it’s how we approach those challenges and lows that define us and separate us from the results. My goal was always to share my music and make people enjoy themselves and have a good time by bringing music and good vibes to their lives, it started like a dream 8 years ago, and now I make a living out of it. I’m more than blessed.
