Meet Heidi Dias

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Dias.

Hi Heidi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I remember getting “the Rachel” haircut in high school and how amazing I felt for months afterward. After that, I knew I wanted to make people feel that way. Feel good about themselves. Change their day or their mindset. I was hooked from that moment on! I went to cosmetology school in Providence, RI and even though I learned a lot, it wasn’t enough. I got a job as an assistant in a high-end boutique salon and was lucky enough to be sent to NYC to learn from Bumble and Bumble and Nick Arrojo among many others. I quickly became the salon educator and had a huge clientele after a few short years.

After moving to Orlando a few years ago, I started looking for other opportunities within the beauty industry. Having four kids and a husband, my time was limited to say the least so I had to get creative! I started a mobile salon business that thrived after no time at all. And even though I’ve loved being freelance and having many different opportunities, I missed the salon environment and longed to have my own place. I opened Heidi Leigh Hair in Porte Noire Windermere in November and it is by far the BEST decision I have ever made! I love it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I am beyond thankful to say that I have never had a bad day at work. I have always loved what I do and enjoyed going to work every single day. There have been times that I have been nervous and had to put myself out there but hard work pays off. In a major way!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been a hairstylist for 20 years. I specialize in blonding and custom haircuts. I think I am most proud of my ability to listen and connect with my clients. Their needs and wants aligned with a great cut and style that is effortless for them and low maintenance. At the same time being gorgeous, in style and on trend.

What sets me apart in what I do is being able to look at my client and come up with a custom look just for them. Based on their hair texture, face shape, their own ability and ease of style. I always work with my clients to create the best feeling hair possible.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My best advice is to never stop learning. Learn from your peers, social media, go to live classes. Invest in yourself! Because you will never fail if you do. Information is freedom.

I remember being in NYC at Bumble and Bumble for a week long styling intensive. There was a stylist there who was 70. She was amazing!  And she told me that to this day – she has learned something new every time she takes a class. And we were in a blowdry class at the time! Which you would think is so basic. Especially after 50 years of doing hair! But She said this is invaluable. There is always something to learn! I think about her all the time and how right she was.
