Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Pudwill.
Hi Holly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to becoming a nutrition professional starts with not wanting the central Florida humidity to impact my hair during P.E. class in high school. In order to avoid this unwelcome consequence, I selected an indoor class for my P.E. credit and through that curriculum determined that I wanted to be surgeon. After considering the time, education, and cost commitments to achieve that goal, I shifted my focus to nutrition as I could still learn about the body, which I found to be the most fascinating and miraculous thing in existence, and help others. At the same time, in our AP Psychology class, we had a unit on eating disorders and I became aware of the pervasiveness of these illnesses. I combined my interest in physiology and the desire to help those suffering from these disorders and set out to become a dietitian.
To date, I have worked in all levels of care treating eating disorders and worked in private practice in various locations providing nutrition counseling for a variety of needs. I recently completed an extensive course through Monash University to support those suffering with IBS navigate an elimination FODMAP diet. Another passion is supporting individuals in making changes to their habits to optimize health and longevity, aiming for a high quality of life, for a long lifetime!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is anything in life a smooth road? I have taken risks, made mistakes, learned copious new things, and had the pleasure of working with incredible people.
As you know, we’re big fans of Eden Nutrition. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Eden Nutrition was founded with the mission to support patients, using individualized care, in making changes to their daily habits that will promote optimized health allowing them to live out God’s calling on their life from a place of wholeness, wellness, and strength. Eden Nutrition exists to promote relationships with food as they were in the garden when there was plenty, variety and nourishment was enjoyed, without shame or want.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I believe wisdom is acknowledging how little you know. While hubris comes with youth, it is never too soon to practice humility. Forcing myself to be quiet and listen taught me that that is the best way to learn. Learning to listen to your patients is critical as well, I have learned more from them than anyone else and believe my skillset in providing care largely comes from what I have learned from the patients that came before. Plus, the old saying is true – “people don’t care what you know until they know that you care.” Really listening to someone is a great way to demonstrate care.
