Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Chapter 1 Design is a family business. Today, it is 100% owned by me and my husband, Felipe. But it didn’t start like this. In the beginning, Soraya, my mother founded the company- she was responsible for clients contact and administration and I was more on the backstage. I handled the creative part, also organizing contractors and installations. Life changed a lot and she decided to leave this business, focusing solely on the Real Estate business. That’s when I became the face of the company. I was always there, but after she left, the clients started talking to me. It was a very smooth transition. The company started by selling vacation home furniture and design packages- this was basically the only thing we sold in the beginning. That’s not the reality today. Of course we still sell the vacation home packages, but we are also doing a lot of residential projects. The fact that we are from Brazil helps us a lot. Many clients don’t know how to speak English, so we become essential on their process of decorating their houses, since we can handle all of the installations and translate anything needed.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would never say it has been a smooth road. People from outside only see the beautiful projects that we deliver, but they have no idea about how much work we put into it. I cannot count the sleepless nights on installation sites that we had. I am a perfectionist- which is perfect for the job, but it can also be exhausting. Of course, all worth it! I love what I do and there is no amount of work that would scare me. The smile on clients faces makes us forget it all. I am extremely grateful for doing what I love everyday, but you will never hear me saying it is easy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Chapter 1 Design is a full service Interior Design company. We take care of the client since day one until the delivery. We deliver projects and take care of the whole installation process, delivering peace of mind for them. We work anywhere from low budget to luxurious projects, everything specific too the needs and budget of each one. We work on both residential and vacation homes, but I have to confess, I absolutely love to work on themed areas on vacation homes. They are so fun, because I can use all of my creativity and build immersive rooms. You feel like you are literally inside the movie. I am proud of the legacy we built over the years. Most of my clients come from referrals from other clients, which makes me extremely proud. They would never recommend something that they didn’t like to friends, so that shows me we’re in the right direction. I think that what set us apart from other companies is always working with honesty and keeping in mind the clients best interests.
