Hi, Iriana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello, I’m Iriana Urdaneta. In addition to being a photographer, I am a wife, friend, and mother. I have two children: a Guinea Pig and an adorable English Bulldog. In my free time, I studied photography as a hobby, and I fell in love with it more and more each time. I had always enjoyed photography, especially when my children arrived; I would take photos of them and capture moments for my friends and their children. When I came to the United States, I began a dream of having my own studio and doing photography, and I fell in love with it more every day. I love photographing pregnant women, newborns, babies, children, and families. It has been 7 years with this project, and it has been made possible thanks to the unwavering support of my husband over many years. It has been a journey filled with challenges, joys, happiness, and rewards.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m Venezuelan, and in my home country, I studied Public Accounting and completed a Postgraduate degree. However, due to personal reasons, I had to emigrate, and I arrived in the United States, a country with a different culture and language. I had to start over from scratch, but with dedication and effort, I managed to move forward. I’ve also had the unwavering support of my husband, who has helped me with the language and connecting with people and clients.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As mentioned, I am a professional photographer specializing in maternity, newborns, babies, children, and family photography. I take pride in what I have become and where I have reached, with its highs and lows, in everything I have learned personally and professionally. I am incredibly proud of my lighting techniques for photography and my level of editing. I have found my style in photography, striving to bring my clients a fresh level and a consistent look in their sessions and photographs, as well as the ability to reinvent my visual expression. My commitment is to satisfy my clients by recommending super creative ideas and ensuring they feel comfortable, expressive, relaxed, and enjoy their photography session or production. The journey with each client becomes part of their sessions, whether it’s a heartwarming baby, maternity, or family session. The result of each photo session produces captivating images that resonate with clients, thanks to the perspective of seeing the details and listening to their suggestions and desires because they are the protagonists of the story.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
As a photographer, you constantly learn, perfecting our essential need to express ourselves through images. This is achieved through constant practice and theory, which combine to enrich your visual experience, which is your perspective on seeing and interpreting photography. When clients view your work, they are transported to the daily occurrences. While good equipment can facilitate how you capture images, your ideas make your visual language extraordinary. Just as the patience and passion you feel for what you do motivate you to seek your language to capture and give meaning to a photograph.
