Hi Jackelyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I discovered my passion for Hair & Makeup Artistry 11 years ago. I am so thankful to have a career that I love so dearly. When I can transform how someone sees themselves and make them feel beautiful… That is what this career is all about. Showing people the beauty that lies within each one of them. I grew up in New York City then decided to move to Florida, started attending College to pursue a business degree but quickly realized it was not for me. I decided to pursue my passion and went to Cosmetology school. I attended Paul Mitchell cosmetology school in 2009. Soon after I started, I got the opportunity to audition for a hair and makeup artist Bridal agency and I started freelancing for them. I did everything from photoshoots and runway shows to bridal. I also have had the opportunity to work with many celebrities which has allowed me to expand my services to TV & Production work. After just 3 years of freelancing, I decided to start my own Bridal Hair & Makeup Agency business and I never looked back. Today, our staff consists of 20 Hair & Makeup artists between Florida & Las Vegas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all, everyday has been a learning experience. The main struggle encountered has been the uncertainty of staying busy because the bridal industry is seasonal, but with dedication and waking up every day with a goal I have managed to overcome the obstacles that come my way. You see when you accept the challenges in your life whether it is business or personal, the most important thing is how you handle those obstacles, because there are always going to be challenges, every day, and those uncertainties motivate me every day to do better, not to ever give up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is one of the most prestigious Mobile Hair & Makeup agency. Our company provides exquisite service with some of the most polished and experienced artists in the industry. We are dedicated to servicing women, bride-to-be’s, bridal parties, celebrities, corporate clients & models. My main focus is on Luxury Bridal Hair & Makeup. The Passion and quality of service is what sets me apart from the rest in the industry. I bring Luxury, Glamour & Timelessness to special events! I ensure the highest caliber of personal service to each of our clients and take pride in our craft & our profession, I am most proud of how far my business has come, from being a one woman show, to having 20 artists across Florida & Las Vegas. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I can make this happen, but I gotta be honest and say I cannot take all the credit for this. My husband has been my biggest fan and motivation through this process, I am grateful for him every day.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe that to be successful in business, taking risks is always involved. I embrace it and it motivates me. I actually have taken many risks and have no regrets. When I wanted to expand my business to other cities and States I was so hesitant, I thought about it for 2 years and I finally decided to do it because I knew that if I did not expand, I will stay exactly where I was, and it has been the best decision I have ever made. When you take risks, you are taking charge, which is something you have to do as a business owner. Taking charge means that you are responsible for organizing your thoughts and gathering them together. The fact of the matter is that when you are willing to take risks and think outside of the box, you are more likely to have success with your business ventures than a non-risk-taker. Weigh your risks carefully, set goals, and take charge. And remember that sometimes a risk may turn out to be a setback. If you continue learning from your mistakes and moving forward, though, your calculated risks will help you reduce losses in the long run.
