Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Jeter.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story is a bit of a roller coaster! It started with getting accepted into the Disney College Program in January 2020. It was always my dream to do the DCP and I was the happiest I had ever been, until Covid hit and caused the program to be cut short in March of 2020, sending me back home early to Indiana. I didn’t have much going on during Covid so like everyone else, I started creating Tik Toks. The fifth Tik Tok I ever made was telling a story about my time as a cast member on the college program. That video went viral and gained over 5 million views – that’s when I knew I might be good at this whole social media thing. I continued to post stories about my life amassing around 250k followers by August of 2020 which is when I actually moved back to Orlando with 3 of my friends from the DCP. I continued making content on Tik Tok as a fun hobby, but never thought it would be a career, it was always just fun to me. However, by May 2021 I had amassed over 1 million followers, started to receive brand deals and realized I could make social media a career. However, I was still in college and was working a part time job so I couldn’t fully commit my time and effort to it, but n May 2022, I graduated college and started pursuing social media full time. It was not an immediate success as it took me time to find my footing in what I wanted to pursue such as theme parks, lifestyle or workout content. I just had too many interests and could never land on one thing. Last year (2024) was the first year I actually considered stepping away from being a social media influencer and started looking for jobs working in corporate social media. My idea to start highlighting the Orlando area came from simply wanting to be a positive member of the community. I’ve loved living in Orlando and just wanted to highlight how great this city is. The immediate success of it was definitely unexpected, but has been extremely welcomed. I hope to continue to highlight Orlando and then soon branch out to more cities in Florida and showcase how amazing the entire state of Florida is. My biggest accomplishment by far was being invited and flown out to Niagara Falls by Niagara Parks this year to highlight one of their newest attractions. To go from some kid in Indiana making silly Tik Tok videos to working so hard to have such an amazing career where Niagara Falls wants ME to help promote their brand is nothing short of a blessing!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No not at all. Money has been a major struggle. I can tell you very confidently that 1 million views and 1 million followers does not equal 1 million dollars! I was not profitable for the first 3 years of doing social media as a job. I was actually insanely broke. I had 3 credit cards constantly maxed out, could barely make the minimum payments and was constantly over drafting on my checking account. However, I always told myself that I would rather go broke chasing this dream rather than live the rest of my life with the regret of not going for it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am honestly known for a lot of different things. I’ve been a content creator for over 5 years now so what you may know me for is based on when you started following me or what viral video you may have seen. I don’t personally think there is anything special about me that sets me apart from others. I try to just be as kind and authentic as possible and hope that it shows in my work.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really believe in luck all that much. I think when you work hard and you are prepared, when opportunities that may be described as “luck” come along, you seize them.
