Meet Jd Davis of Lakeland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jd Davis.

Hi Jd, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started photography in 2020 after taking some photos at my church and grew fond of it. After that, I started taking photos of random birds, my friends, flowers pretty much anything I could point my camera at. Since then I’ve taken photos for many different sports teams, different events, and portrait shoots. I’ve been blessed to end up where I am in photography and how far I’ve gone in such a short time. Today I’m still doing photography going into my 2nd year and I love it I plan on doing this for a long time and hope to go full time with it this year.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been quite difficult to get into this industry many things have challenged me. One being my age I’m only 16 which can make it quite difficult to get people to think you’re serious about your craft. Another one would be getting onto sports fields although currently at the moment it has been made a lot easier due to my having connections now at the start trying to get onto many fields was impossible for me at the time. Last but not least the competition in the industry I’m in there are a lot of photographers who know more than me which I take as an opportunity to learn from them but it can make getting paid clients difficult as more experienced people are available in the field.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love capturing moments for not just others but for myself. As time passes, I find some days to be more or less a blur hard to dictate what made a day or event special. However with photography, I’m able to capture these moments to look back and reflect on not just for myself but others as well. Any chance I get to capture a moment I’m excited and ready to do so. I am blessed with the ability to take photos of the people of tomorrow the athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, doctors, etc but now in a moment of time in which will always be the same. I think what differentiates me from others isn’t my price nor my quantity but rather my wanting for connections. I don’t want the only time I reach out or contact people to be when they need a shoot life is about building relationships photography is an outlet I have to do so and with this outlet it wouldn’t feel right to charge crazy high prices and never contact people after a shoot is done. It may be something small like replying to a story on Instagram of more like grabbing some coffee on a Saturday but just something to show that they are important.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how small but big Lakeland is if that makes sense. Like Lakeland is big don’t get me wrong but I know people and if I don’t someone probably does which makes building connections in the city easy as most people probably know the person who to you is a stranger. I don’t like the more modern take I see in the city with 98N becoming more crowded and an increase in big businesses I’m worried that in a couple of years the Lakeland I know won’t be the same and it won’t be because it improved for the better.
