Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Wynn.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I remember going to a salon to a stylist that had been doing my hair long-term and me asking her to do something a little different to my hair her words to me were “if you know how you want your hair why don’t you do it yourself” lol who knew that I would take those words and run with it. After that, I DID start doing my own hair, from there my friends started to inquire about who was doing hair when they then wanted me to do theirs, my dad would come home and there would be a house full of my friends getting their hair done, I guess you could say there was a JW Studio’s before the actual JW Studios. I went on to high school and my clientele grew. However, I still didn’t know that this was going to be my long term career until one day Mrs. Allen approached me and asked if I would like to dual enrollment for lake tech and LHS of course I said YES! Fast forward 21 years later that was the best decision I could have made who knew that a passion that I love would in turn become my career where I can provide for myself and family.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Omg No! And anyone that tell you being an entrepreneur is smooth is lying although I love what I do and my customers there have been a lot of sacrifices. Being a single mom and trying to move forward in your career sometimes you sacrifice time with your kids and family. Me personally I crave success and doing so business comes before even me sometimes I’ve just gotten to where I sat boundaries because I know that if I don’t and I over extend myself I’m no good to my family or my business. There is one time in the beginning of starting my business that was probably the most humbling I had just started my business it was so slow I had no customers really I was working at a gas station at night part time, ubering on my days off and I still couldn’t make ends meet, I had home rent, shop rent, supplies for the shop all the regular expenses plus now business expenses my dad had to take a loan against his house to help me pay my rent for a few months I remember going by my house before I picked up my boys to make sure the lights were still on, one day I was tired and didn’t feel like doing a drive by and pulling up with boys and the lights being off the feeling of embarrassment and defeat BUT GOD five years later my business has grown and I’m blessed more now than ever and I’m appreciative of those hard times its kept me humble and appreciative of every interaction and every person that comes through my door.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JW Studio 1582?
My salon is small in stature but the experience is grand. My goal was to have a place that felt like home but gave you the experience of a luxury boutique what I mean by that is that I want my guest to feel comfortable coming in sitting back talking and laughing but receiving top notch service with great customer service where they are catered to and they can receive all of this at an affordable price. JW Studio 1582 is family oriented we cater to all nationalities, men, women and children we specialize in the maintenance and upkeep of your natural hair our service list is extensive with keep in the forefront healthy hair. A lot of our customers come in for the silk press treatment which leaves our clients hair feeling silky smooth with plenty of bounce.
What’s next?
I would like to see JW Studio 1582 in other cities, little boutiques shops nestled in communities bringing the JWS experience to neighborhoods all over. Staying true to how we started and what has made JW Studio 1582 a respected and valued salon. As a professional I would love to get in to education I pride myself on being able to do and being comfortable doing ALL hair types and I would like to share my knowledge with others and let them know the days are behind us when you have to do only black hair because your black or only white hair and so for and so on because of your nationality that you can have a business or a chair where no matter who sits in your chair they trust that you are going to give them the best care and experience.
