Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Maurer.

Jessica Maurer

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My early career taught me a lesson I now share with corporate leaders: achievement without wellbeing is unsustainable. Back then, I was teaching 30 classes a week, managing programs, and co-running a studio—on paper, successful, but in reality, I was exhausted and burned out. That period was a wake-up call: I realized that the way we work, lead, and measure business success often comes at the expense of our well-being.

That lesson set me on a new path—one that’s taken me across international stages for more than 20 years, speaking about wellness and sustainable success. Along the way, I’ve worked with companies, organizations, and leaders who felt stretched too thin, showing them how to move from overwhelm to organized. I discovered that my true passion isn’t just sharing the science of wellness—it’s helping people and businesses put it into practice so they can thrive without burning out.

Today, that’s exactly what I bring to organizations as a keynote speaker. I help corporate leaders leverage science-based solutions around happiness, resilience, and mental wellness to retain top talent, reduce burnout, and create environments where people want to stay and grow. My journey from overworked instructor to international speaker has shown me firsthand: success doesn’t come from doing more—it comes from creating systems, habits, and cultures that support people’s wellbeing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the early stages of my career, I was taught to say yes to every opportunity that came my way. A mentor told me that eventually, those chances would dry up, so I should enjoy them while they were available. I would say yes to every class, client, and project because I was petrified of the impending doom of my inbox being empty one day. This left me injured, exhausted, and unhappy with my commitments.

As a recovering “yes” woman, I know how hard it can be to slow down, rest, recover, and take breaks when needed. In my experience, entrepreneurs think we must overwork, bend backward, and sacrifice our time to prove our worth. And frankly, that’s not true. When we constantly run from one mental gymnastics trick to the next, we experience the harsh reality of burnout.

Most of us do our best work when we are happiest. After years of working with entrepreneurs, we tend to be the most productive, joyful, and healthiest when we feel mentally rested and living with a sustainable working schedule.

As you know, we’re big fans of JHM Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have been surrounded by the most supportive teammates and mentors throughout my career. From my very first manager, Jerry Langham, to the inspiring CEO Lisa Druxman, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside remarkable leaders and colleagues who have taught me so much.

The friendships then surpass the industry; Nathalie Lacombe, Kia Williams, and Alex McLean are my rocks who inspire me to have fun along the way. My helping hands, Laura and Alysia, were there for me when I needed them most, proving that support often comes from people who just get it.

I’m especially grateful to Mindy Mylrea, Tricia Murphy Madden, Shannon Fable, Jenn Hall, Marc Lebert and Denise Imbesi, who took a chance on me when I was still new and finding my way. Their belief in me was fuel for my fire, making all the difference.

At every stage of my career, I’ve been guided, encouraged, and challenged by incredible people, and for that, I’m endlessly thankful. It’s a reminder that no one succeeds alone—we all need our champions, collaborators, and friends to help us grow.
