Meet Johanny Narcisse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanny Narcisse.

Hi Johanny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a 21 years old self-taught nail technician. It all started right before covid in March of 2020. I went to get my nails done and little did I know that was when I found my creative passion in doing nails. That night I went to Sally’s Beauty Supply to get a few things because I told myself, “I’ve been getting my nails done for five years now, I can practically do this myself,” and there I was shopping for cheap nail supplies not knowing what I was getting myself into. I practiced all the time on myself and on my friends until I felt comfortable enough with taking it seriously & promoting myself as a new nail tech. I have such a tremendous amount of support in my community, the people I’ve grown up with, the people I’ve met throughout the years, and even people who just genuinely want to see a Black Woman win by being her own boss is such a blessing. It’s been about two years since I’ve been a nail tech and I wake up every day loving what I do, the services I provide and the connections of being a friend and a bomb tech who always understands the assignment.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To get to where I’m at right now has definitely not been a smooth road. The obstacles I had to overcome started when I decided to take control of my life at the same time, the world was falling apart, lol. I was in school on the pre-med track and I hated every part of it. It was interesting but not enough where I could see myself doing this for the rest of my life so I bowed out. Then when the world went on lockdown how was I to become something of myself if I can’t go out and meet people or get my work out, and to not get sick either? It was tough, and being a young adult now is harder than it was when our parents were our age. So many different factors in our life affecting us but still finding any bit of strength to keep pushing towards our goals. There were times I wanted to quit because I wasn’t getting clients, I thought I wasn’t good enough, and I just thought I was in over my head. But my mom told me to never give up and I kept going.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Nail Tech and people know me more for that. I specialize in freestyle color acrylic sets. I believe what sets me apart is that I can come up with designs at the drop of a hat, I’m always going to execute a nail inspo set but tweak it to fit more my own style. Even the sets I do recreate fully if the client wants, they’re actually good, lol. I’m most proud of the reactions I get to a finished set because I may think one way but as long as the clients are happy then I’m happy and I do love my work a lot.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Doing what I want makes me happy. I know right from wrong, I know when to have a good time and when to wind down, and living responsibly while working at something you love is pure happiness.
