Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Camacho.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started with photography around 12 years ago in Maracaibo, Venezuela (my hometown). I graduated from Law School but knew immediately after graduating that I wanted to be a photographer. Therefore, I decided to start studying it through different courses.
During my first years as a photographer, I had to keep working doing other jobs and just doing photography as a part-time. However, in 2015 I moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I decided to keep learning about photography and pursuing my dream to become an excellent and professional photographer. I studied so many courses related to photography and arts in general and that was when I started networking with incredible individuals whom connected me to my first jobs in the city. Three years later, I was booking various sessions but still wasn’t enough to consider myself a full-time job photographer.
Because of the economic situation in Buenos Aires, I decided to move to the States where my family had already been living for almost three years, and now I think it has been one of the most important decisions I’ve ever made. In 2019, I was able to start my own company: MISTERHINDI. Now, I can proudly say that I am doing what I love the most as my full-time job and I could not be happier. The path hasn’t been an easy one, however, I truly believe it has all been so worth it and I hope I can keep doing it for as long as time allows me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Just like any other goal in life, the path to success has ups and downs; that’s why I always try to take away something good from every situation and keep growing.
The biggest struggle has been for those around me to understand that being a photographer is, in fact, a full-time job that requires a lot of work just like any other full-time job. As an artist, we are often so underestimated and I believe it has become part of my journey to fight for not only my work but to show the world the value in our sacrifices and our ways to express art.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am photographer and directing myself to become a whole visual artist. I believe that everything I am surrounded is an inspiration to keep doing art and expressing myself.
I as many of my colleagues, I’ve been trying to find the personality behind every pictures. I’ve been specializing in portraits those are the types of pictures that connect me to every people I’ve had the opportunity to shoot with. As I mentioned before, I am working on becoming a whole visual artist I am always trying to learn new things not related to photography because I want to take my company to further levels.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think nowadays the social media is the best tool that any entrepreneur can use to expand their work. It allows you to connect with people all over the world and for free. Before COVID, I used to attend to a lot of conferences or art shows that helped me to get to different people inside the area of photography and art.
