Hi Jose, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Jose Pereles Bonilla: A Journey of Resilience, Passion, and Artistry
I was born on November 6, 1978, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, a city close to the vibrant capital of San Juan. My upbringing was grounded in strong values, respect for others, and a natural curiosity about the world. When it was time to choose a path in college, I initially set my sights on studying architecture. However, life had other plans. I enrolled at the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamon, starting with a focus in Arts, and soon found myself captivated by graphic arts.
This passion for design deepened as I worked in the Audiovisual Department at the university. It inspired me to transfer to the Carolina campus, where I completed my degree in Graphic Arts. In 2003, I graduated, and Artístico Design was born—a name that originated from a university project where we had to create and present a brand. I took that concept beyond the classroom and turned it into a business, initially offering freelance graphic design services.
Over the years, I worked for various private companies, building valuable skills in printing and signage. By 2008, I felt ready to open my own business location. Each year, I invested in new equipment, hired talented staff, and developed partnerships that helped Artístico Design grow. Alongside this, I joined an event production team in 2003, organizing talent shows and university fairs, which sparked a new professional passion for event production.
In 2016, I organized my first independent expo for the events industry—a thrilling moment in my career. The success and fulfillment I felt solidified my drive to continue on this path. Then, in 2017, life presented an unexpected challenge. Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, forcing me to make the difficult decision to close operations on the island and relocate to Florida. While this move was bittersweet, it gave me the chance to rebuild and find stability amid uncertainty.
Since 2018, Artístico Design and Artístico Productions have evolved steadily, navigating a new landscape in Florida. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has been rewarding. In 2024, I achieved two significant milestones: I became certified as a Home Health Aide to care for my mother, whose health requires special attention, and I served as President of the Davenport Leads group within the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce.
Today, Artístico Design is a comprehensive design and production company with an exceptional team, advanced equipment, and an unwavering commitment to quality. We go beyond delivering high-quality materials—we bring the final product to our clients’ doors, ensuring efficiency and satisfaction every step of the way. With each project, I am reminded of how far we’ve come, and I am inspired by the future that lies ahead.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My first obstacle in my professional career was in 2012 when I had to go through the Bankruptcy Law process due to financial situations, the high costs of equipment and the great competition so close to each other.
Then when I started to evolve in my business in 2017, Hurricane Maria came and it was a great obstacle and challenge of change in the business that I did not know which way to go.
2024, Artificial Intelligence is my current great obstacle for not tempering myself and taking advantage of using this tool in my favor, I know I can use it in my favor but I am a Graphic Artist and my goal is to create using my creativity and my passion and not using that of a machine.
In addition, taking care of a family member is not an easy task because of all the great responsibility and attention it requires. And being alone in a country where a large percentage of people only think about themselves is very challenging. Having a helping hand in Florida is an obstacle I have suffered since 2022.

For those who are starting out in the world of graphic design, printing, or event production, my main advice is to never stop learning and adapting. The market is dynamic, and staying up to date on trends, technologies, and customer needs is key to standing out and growing. Don’t be afraid to invest time in understanding not only the creative aspects, but also the logistical and operational aspects that are essential to delivering a complete service.
Something I wish I had known at the beginning is the importance of building a network of contacts and solid collaborations. Surrounding yourself with other professionals, learning from them, and being open to collaborating will not only enrich your experience, but can also open doors you never imagined. Networking events and exhibitions can be great opportunities to make these connections and create long-term business relationships.
Also, remember that every project counts and deserves the same dedication, whether small or large.
