Meet Joshua Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Ramirez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Joshua Ramirez, and I’m the co-owner / Director of Jack Nine Films as well as our Video / Photography Facility Secret Art Studios, located in Saint Cloud, Florida. The company was started out in Allentown, PA in 2009 when I lost my job working for a bank and the economy was crashing. I never did any type of video work, but some friends of mine saw I had a video camera laying on the floor and asked if I could record a Music Video for one of our artist friends. I typed in on YouTube “How to Edit a Music Video”. Since then, I never looked back. One of them, Mr. Carlos Palacios is now currently my business partner and have grown the business together where it is now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Success is never smooth. When I started, I was 34 years old. At the age most people would say, “You should have your life together by now,” and here I am starting a business not having one ounce of previous experience. I had some friends say I was crazy. Some people telling me, “You need to get a regular job and stop trying to live a fantasy”. A lot of those people are no longer in my life. For my wife, I know it was a bit scary, but she trusted me and honestly was a major key to my success. My wife and kids are my fuel to push as hard as I can so they can see Dad did it with no excuses.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a Music Video Director, you have to love one main thing, music. I’ve always loved music and I come from being an artist myself as well as producer, so transitioning over to video production even though prior to 2009 I never did it, it still was natural for me. Most people who do videos never experienced being an Artist or Musician so I can see and feel the project from many angles. I’m able to speak the Artist language and helps them get super comfortable really quickly. Most clients end up building relationships with us because of the way we are on set. You can see the smiles and fun we bring to a work environment. People tend to take work way too serious. Why would you did that if your were lucky enough to be doing what you love?

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I am a proud graduate of YouTube university! I swear by it, and I learned everything I know from there. For anyone out there wanting to learn anything, the world is literally at your fingertips.
