Today we’d like to introduce you to Josie Maida.
Josie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey at the University of Rhode Island in 2013 and graduated with a double major in Public Relations and Communication Studies – I had internships at agencies and in-house in PR and social media roles every semester. When I graduated I worked at the S3 agency in New Jersey and then moved to Disney to do the Disney College Program. After that, I worked with Disney for about a year until getting into a communications role with the company. I worked in internal communication at EPCOT before the pandemic. When the pandemic happened, I couldn’t even get a job at a grocery store, so I needed to find something to do. A client fell into my lap, and I realized I could start my own business. I went back to Disney to work in social media management and content creation, and then decided it was time to run my business full-time.
Now I am a freelance writer, a content creator on my own platforms, and I own my agency where I specialize in influencer relations and management!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all – the pandemic was a really difficult situation, I thought I would be at Disney forever, but that pushed me to find a new path. Also, when I was just finishing my Disney College Program, the start of my career, my mother passed away. It was really difficult to keep moving forward alone in a new city after that loss, but I kept going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Orlando foodie creator and I love to share theme park food and tips and great spots all around the city on my platforms on TikTok and Instagram! I also love to travel, so when I go to new places, I like to showcase those experiences as well!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being able to pay your bills and support yourself and be happy. Those are the very basics, and I think we should be more excited about those things, especially in terms of working for ourselves. Also, always continuing to learn, grow, and get better is such a huge part of how I define success – am I getting better?
