Meet Jovonna Boffa of East colonial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovonna Boffa.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started tattooing in 2019 with a strong foundation thanks to a great mentor who taught me the fundamentals. From there, I threw myself into the craft—traveling the world, getting tattooed by some of the best artists out there, and learning from every experience. My style and skills evolved with every stop, and tattooing quickly became more than just a job—it became who I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most artists, finding my style didn’t happen overnight. It took a lot of trial and error, and a lot of trust in the process. I also had to navigate being completely shut down during Covid not long after I started, which forced me to hit pause and rebuild momentum once things reopened. But those challenges pushed me to dig deeper, stay committed, and ultimately helped shape the artist I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a fine line tattoo artist known for delicate, detailed work, especially florals and butterflies. I love creating pieces that feel soft, feminine, and timeless. What I’m most proud of is opening my own shop at 25. Building a space that’s mine, where I can fully express my vision has been a dream come true. I think what sets me apart is the intention behind every piece. I care deeply about flow, placement, and making sure each tattoo feels like it belongs on the body.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to work with me is by reaching out via Instagram. (@lalalalajojo) I’m always open to collaborations—whether it’s with other artists, brands, or creatives who share a similar aesthetic. And honestly, just sharing my work, tagging me, or recommending me means the world. Supporting independent artists goes a long way, and I’m super grateful for every person who’s been part of my journey.
