Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Troy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We grew up in a construction and real estate family. My father, Tony Troy, came to Lake Helen in the early 1990s and established Troy Building Company. He specialized in custom new homes and renovations that provided higher quality at a competitive price. At my father’s passing in 2016, I took over his legacy of crafting custom projects. My formal background was in design, and I spent many hours around my dad’s business. The company is now run by me and my brother, Anthony Troy, and we like to focus on custom new construction and renovations in the Volusia County area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My father had big shoes to fill! However, the work ethic, integrity, and kindness he instilled in us has helped us continue to try and provide a higher level of service to our clients while staying true to our ideals as a custom builder.
Being a woman in this industry has its moments where I am underestimated. However, I humbly came into this industry knowing our company was only as good as our loyal, talented subcontractors and vendors, and I try to stand by that still today. The biggest lessons I’ve learned have been to show up every day, communicate thoroughly, and remember that there are no problems, only solutions.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in working closely with our clients to accommodate their design and functionality needs. Our process includes hearing their wants and needs and their style and design preferences, and we try to fit as much as possible into their intended space and budget.
For our new construction clients, we prefer starting from scratch at the first design meeting to make sure their space is designed to meet their needs and their budget. For our renovation clients, we enjoy delivering their vision while also offering solutions to help them stay within their budget and recommend new products that will improve their space. We are most known for taking time to get to know our clients and doing everything we can to stay true to our word in delivering a one-of-a-kind space.
How do you think about happiness?
I am addicted to the end results. I love taking before and after photos and assessing the improvements we make. Every day is different, and in our industry, we are constantly working towards improving and growing.
