Meet Kelley Batson-Howard of Eustis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelley Batson-Howard

Hi Kelley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my art practice outside my garage in 2018 by joining a local collective art gallery. While that collective is no more, I have continued forward participating in local exhibits in and around Central Florida. I am in process of opening my own working art studio in the downtown Eustis, Fl area.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business and growing your dream is never easy. It takes many, many hours and lots of sleepless nights to make your vision come to life. In my particular case, it has taken many miles of travel taking art to and from to be seen in multiple locations in and around the central Florida area. The biggest challenge is to be in so many places at once. Sometimes it is impossible, but I do my best. I’m now ready to stop so much of the travel and hopefully begin to drive some traffic to me instead. The next struggle will be to drive that traffic to my door with personal visits to my working studio.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an intuitive, contemporary painter creating abstract works that live in my soul. I am very much influenced by nature and the textures and patterns that surround us. I work to bring the beauty I see in the world we live in by painting canvases with the love and positive energy of God. My work varies from colorful and whimsical pieces to minimalist abstracts for interior spaces.
I am currently working on a series titled ” Textures on Canvas” that use heavily textured canvases to give a 3-D feel and earthy vibe. I think these paintings may be the best of my short career because they are very unique in their look and feel. They give the viewer an urgency to touch them.
The thing I am most proud of in my career is when a collector takes one of my paintings home. It is the highest compliment when someone wants to take one of your soul creations to live with them. This is the best way an artist can share ourself with the world and have a daily influence for good. It is the way to share our original self.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to remain grounded. It is important to be yourself and not get caught up in whatever accolades may come your way. The art world is fickle and what is loved today is out tomorrow. It is important to be who you are and create from your soul no matter the trends. Art is about being honest with your audience about who you are..
