Meet Kelly Seidl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Seidl.

Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up scooping my way through nursing school. My husband Scott and I moved to Orlando in 2011 and saw a need for homemade ice cream so we started recipe development. Along the way, we picked up a commercial grade ice cream maker and then took our skills to local farmers’ markets and then our ice cream truck and we found great success. In 2015 we opened our first ice cream shop in Audubon Park. Opened up our next location in the Curry Ford West/SODO district in October 2017 and Oviedo in January 2020 next to The Townhouse Restaurant.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There always has been bumps in the road. From blown tires on I4 in the ice cream truck, riding out a hurricane with our 4-month-old, delays in construction and most recently COVID, we have found a way out and learned to pivot.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My background is in healthcare; I went to school and received my Bachelors in Nursing in 2009, which I still work a few days a month. Therefore I do not have a culinary background but a love for ice cream. I have a very talented production team that brings all of my ideas to light. I love that we have a mix of traditional and unique flavors like maple bourbon bacon, alligator tracks and rose jam to Ore-Dough and Butter Pecan. Typically we can please just about anyone in a family, including a small lineup of non-dairy offerings as well. We love bringing families and friends together for any occasion.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I cannot say we have taken any huge risks; we typically take our time and think about things before taking a huge leap of faith. Starting slow from farmers markets to ice cream truck to storefront were great stepping stones.
