Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Scott.
Hi Kendra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It really started when I was 11 years old. My aunt was supposed to style my hair one weekend, and she kept canceling my appointment. So, I did my hair in the bathroom, and it took all day!! Lol. But I fell in love with the art of hair and the many transformations that could take place. I would draw as a young girl with my dad, and I fell in love with art. So, in some ways, being a professional stylist became art to me. Fast forward to 2013, and I found myself completing Aveda Institute; a cosmetology school, and finishing up my master’s in management with an undergrad in Marketing. I working in a salon for 6 months before I left and work as an independent artist and eventually owning my own salon. “Salon Her” is the name of my salon.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No road is smooth, that’s why they call it a journey. I think some of my struggles have been really finding my place in the industry I’m in, staying focus, and not procrastinating. I learned early to stay as educated as possible in my industry. And COVID definitely was an obstacle, especially with opening a salon and getting inventory in. There were so many delays, it started effect the client services.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a salon owner and hairstylist in Orlando, Florida. I also own KenLi Cliq, an extension company where we specialize in custom extension orders and healthy hair care. I am also a hair educator, where I teach live courses, in-person, and 1-on-1 training. I am currently working on an online educational program. I specialize in color, hair care, and extension services. My continuous drive to create new techniques is what sets me apart. I am most proud of being an entrepreneur and leader in my industry.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I just remember having the best time with my family. We always got together with cousins and family for summer BBQs and holidays. And we would always have trips to theme parks over the summer, right before school started. Just a lot of family time!
