Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny.
Hi Kenny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Starting cooking with friends in our community in 2002 and entered my first barbecue competition in 2005. In 2008 I opened my first restaurant inside Maryland fried chicken in Winter Garden Florida two years later I moved to Clermont to the citrus Tower. While running the restaurant I continue to cook on the barbecue circuit and was also featured on a few cooking shows and became the Florida State champion in 2012 as well as South Carolina state champion, Georgia state champion, and Alabama State champion. Where we grew our business and I was there until June 2022. Unfortunately, after having to close the restaurant in June 2022 due to some personal reasons, I have opened a food truck that runs 3 to 4 days a week in Lake County with continued support from all my loyal customers over the years couldn’t be more grateful or blessed in March 2025. I was asked to join the Guy Fieri foundation. Feeding first responders and veterans around the country. I currently still operate my Food Truck under Uncle Kennys Takeaway in my downtime from the Guy Fieri foundation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obstacles and struggles of finding employees with all new restaurants, opening and raising food cost as well as operating cost. It’s hard for a mom and pop Resturant to compete with all the big chain restaurants but the main struggle is balancing family life
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Uncle Kenny’s Take-Away ?
I’m very passionate about what I do and believe in the relationships that I built with my customers over the years we always treated our customers and still treat our customers as if their family even when they come up to the food truck from serving the customers at the restaurants to catering their kids graduation parties and then weddings. I feel like I definitely made our restaurant feel like a family environment for the community.
