Meet Kevin Moritis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Moritis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been coaching football for 29 years now. I am currently the QC Coach for the Orlando Predators Arena Team. I work for East Preps and coach for both the FCS and Tropical Bowls which give college players the opportunity to practice and play in front of all 32 NFL scouts and also CFL scouts. Also, HC for National Team in the All-America Classic for HS players which is played here at Camping World Stadium. It gives the players a chance to compete and get noticed by college recruiters. This past January’s game we had over 60 players get offers and we had 11 commits. We also ran Valley State Post Grad, where we helped over 40 players reach college in past 2 years. I also started my training company Defense University ten years ago. We focus on teaching technique and fundamentals for all the defensive positions and going thru the defensive alignments so players have a better understanding of their position and how they fit into the defense. I have been living in Florida since 1994 and lived in Broward County. I coached in the AYFL Youth league for 19 years and various high school programs but was blessed to be part of 2 nationally known programs, University School or Uschool and St Thomas Aquinas. My greatest joy is seeing your former players get their degrees and be fortunate enough to have a more than a few get-to-go play in the NFL.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never an easy road and the adversity you overcome along the way makes the success you get that much more awesome. Starting a camp that was defense-focused, was tough and it took a year for the kids to come join us. we had ave of 10-15 and it grew to 40-50 a week and it grew because I had great coaches that taught the game and our players got better and went from rotation player to starter. South Florida is very competitive and kids and parents have choices and you have to deliver. When I moved to Orlando, it was same issues, starting over in new city, where I knew very few people. But once Valley State PG started then we grew together. I travel for my job as a medical rep and I would post online that I was in the city or town and set up DU training sessions. This way I find players to come to the All-America Classic.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started my career as a scrub nurse and have grown to a Clinical Rep for medical company. I work in surgery for almost 30 years and love working with and helping patients get great outcomes. I have worked in multiple areas of surgery and before I moved into my current job, I was a robotic scrub and loved that work and the people on our team. Now I am out training or coaching new ORs on the use of our company’s products that are used in robotics. It’s a wonderful career and being part of a team is what I love most. Every day I get to work with people who make a difference and we do save lives. That carries over to coaching. You make a difference in players’ lives and help mold them to be good people and seeing them grow and become good husbands and fathers. I enjoy seeing them get degrees and some go into coaching and some are blessed to play pro football.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Just have a plan and be prepared for setbacks and adversity. But if you stay with it and find a way then it will be worth it. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, so let it grow and allow the process to play out.
