Meet Kevin Wilcox of Greater Orlando Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Wilcox.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in California and frequented Disneyland throughout my life. My affinity for the parks started at an early age. From my earliest memories of Disneyland to local theme parks and even county fairs. I have always loved the feeling of being inside a theme park. Storytelling is something I thoroughly enjoy doing. Anyone who talks to me knows that I enjoy sharing my experiences with others to help guide them on their journeys.

As my wife and I began discussing living near a Disney park later in life, we decided to take the plunge and move to the Orlando area, putting us “right down the street” from both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. We then decided to start sharing our adventures in a written format on Disneykindalife.com. After a couple of years, we decided to start our YouTube channel and share our experiences through visual storytelling. In light of the current state of the world and the influence of social media, we strive to tell a more positive story that makes people smile when they see our content.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the most challenging aspects of creating theme park content is the numerous existing and established channels. This makes it difficult for new viewers to find us. We strive to keep our storytelling as authentic as possible, as we want to avoid coming across as fake. We believe our storytelling is entertaining, and as long as we are happy with the finished product, our audience will find us in due time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of theme park creation, I am an IT Product Engineering Manager for a grocery chain. In that line of business, I serve as the lead decision-maker and mentor for 18 employees in a highly technical field. Uniquely, I can use my professional skills and mindset to help keep the structure of our content in a way that feels organized and precise.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The one piece of advice I continually give to people who ask me about content creation is not to get into it for the money. You really shouldn’t do anything for just the money, but do it for the love of your craft. In our case, we love visiting theme parks and sharing our adventures and strategies about them. On some days at the parks, we don’t even go on any attractions, but instead grab a coffee and stroll through the park. Being local has its advantages!
