Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberlyn Murphy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I remember always having a deposable camera in my hand taking pictures for fun. I would take it to the beach, road trips, parties… you name it. I would get so excited to see what moments were captured within those 24 precious exposures. Some of those candid shots are still some of my favorite childhood keepsakes. As time went on, I upgraded to digital, I kept learning and taking pictures of my travels for friends and family. It always seemed like a far too perfect dream to do photography for a living, so I went to college a while until I realized what I was going for was just not for me. I tried that a few different times. Then one day a friend came up to me and asked why aren’t you doing photography? The pictures I have that you’ve taken are my favorite”. It hit me and those following weeks, I quit my job… and worked super hard to get my portfolio, website and business together. Dharma Photography was born not even a year ago, but it’s been one of the most amazing, rewarding times in my life and has shown me that if you love something go for it with your all. Giving my clients something they can cherish has given my life purpose and that’s where Dharma Photography comes from.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It took me a long time to believe this dream was even possible for me. I have always struggled with doubting myself, worrying what others would think and I had a case of imposture syndrome. Even to this day, I have days where I am confident and others where I feel like I need to improve and change everything. Sometimes you have to stop yourself not only to remember how far you’ve come but how far you can also take it if you keep taking the steps to improve.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Lifestyle Photographer based out of New Smyrna Beach but serve anywhere if you take me there. I specialize in couples but love shooting weddings, elopements, families, seniors/graduates, and branding for businesses, etc. I think I am known for fun, candid, warm, dreamy photos. I am proud to see how far I have come with photography and that I am booking clients, please don’t pinch me… I seriously love what I do. What sets me apart is that I want you to be involved with the creative process I love hearing your vision and helping you bring it to life. But also the candid, raw playful moments.
What’s next?
My plans are to grow as a photographer and a business owner. I look forward to keep working with my amazing clients, as well as welcome in new ones. In 2022 I am shooting a lot of weddings, I feel so blessed to be able to be a part of my couples big day. I also have a lot of travel plans this year which is so exciting!!!!
