Kristen and Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We’re Kit and Ryan, lifelong pet lovers based in Apopka in Central Florida. We’ve both been pet owners our entire lives—together, that’s nearly a century of hands on pet care experience. Animals have always been part of our homes, our routines, and our family story.
Our professional journey begins with Kit’s mom, Sharron. After evacuating during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she needed a pet sitter herself—and that experience led her to discover Pet Sitters International (PSI). She found a trusted sitter through PSI, became licensed and certified, and went on to start her own company, Sharron’s Pets. When she later retired, she expanded the business full time, and we were involved in the operations as family members from the very beginning.
After years of helping friends and family as hobby sitters, we eventually reached a point where we wanted to make this our full time career. When we made that decision, it felt like our true calling and passion ( “legal pet sitters.”). “Orange Blossom Tails is a premium, owner-operated pet sitting and dog-walking service built on trust, reliability, and genuine care.”
As active members of the running community, we also wanted to create a company that reflected our lifestyle—one that blended movement, health, and enrichment for both pets and people. “We’ve built a company that blends health, animals, and enrichment… creating a service that supports both pets and the people who love them.”
What started as a small, family rooted effort has grown into a true grassroots business fueled by recommendations and referrals. We became the pet sitters we always needed ourselves: dependable, communicative, and committed to giving families true Peace of Mind.
Following the standards Sharron introduced us to, we also became licensed through Pet Sitters International, and today we’re proud to be among the few PSI licensed pet sitters in Central Florida.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most small businesses, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. When we shifted from our safe careers to making this our full‑time career as “legal pet sitters,” we had to build everything from scratch…our systems, our branding, our processes, and our reputation. That kind of foundation takes time, patience, and a lot of learning along the way.
One of the biggest challenges was navigating the amount of advice we received. When you start a business, everyone has an opinion. Most of it has been helpful, some not so much. Learning to filter through that, trustinh our instincts, and stay aligned with our values was a big part of our growth. We had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.. which means we also had to learn and practice listening to those nuggets of advice from others, but also knowing when to politely tune things out and follow our own path.
We also grew through true grassroots momentum, which means nothing was handed to us. Every client, every referral, every opportunity came from consistency, communication, and showing up day after day. That kind of growth is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also a grind.
Even with the challenges, each step has reinforced why we do this. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been meaningful, and it’s shaped us into the reliable, trusted team we are today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Orange Blossom Tails, we like to say we’re equal parts heart, hustle, and professional treat givers. We are the kind of people pets get excited to see and families feel good trusting. On the surface, we’re licensed, PSI certified pet sitters who provide premium pet sitting and dog walking across Central Florida. But what we really do is give families Peace of Mind in a way that is personal, dependable, and genuinely caring.
Kit brings a blend of expertise you don’t often find in the pet care world. She earned her MBA from LSU and has been a pawnbroker since she was 18, specializing in diamonds and gold. Her entire career has been rooted in serving the community with a servant’s heart (listening), problem solving, and building trust with people from all walks of life. Those same strengths now shape the way we care for pets and support their families.
Ryan’s background adds its own kind of magic. After more than 22 years as a USPS mail carrier, he mastered efficient routes, routines, and reading the body language of every dog on his route. And while he did get bit once or twice (because hey, it happens), most dogs absolutely adored him … and this mailman loved them right back. His reliability, consistency, and sense of humor bring a grounded, approachable energy to everything we do.
Together, our backgrounds create a service that’s both deeply personal and highly professional. We’ve been pet owners our entire lives and we bring that intuition into every visit. Being active walkers and runners, we’ve also built a service that blends movement, health, and enrichment for pets who thrive on activity.
What sets us apart is simple:
We show up. We communicate. We care like family.
And we’re proud that our business has grown the old fashioned way which is through trust, word of mouth, and clients who feel genuinely cared for.

Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference. As we say in New Orleans, it’s the little lagniappe, that something extra, that stays with people. That spirit is at the heart of Orange Blossom Tails Pet Services, or as most of our clients know us, OBT Pets. When we say “Welcome to the OBT Pets Family,” we mean it. We want every home, every pet, and every family to feel just a little better than when we arrived.
We’re here for all of them because we have been them. We’ve been the people who were sick and needed someone we trusted to care for our animals. We’ve been the people trying to take a conference call while the pool guy shows up at the exact wrong moment and the dogs need a walk. Life gets busy and complicated and overwhelming, and we understand that because we’ve lived it. That understanding is what shaped the way we built this company.
OBT Pets was founded on one of the most historic roads in Orlando – Orange Blossom Trail, a road that connects small towns and everyday lives throughout Central Florida. It felt like the right place to root and name our business built on connection, trust, and community. We want to be the pet sitters people recommend without hesitation, the first call when someone needs help, support, or simply a moment to breathe.
We love making our visits personal. A handwritten thank you card. A little drawing. Sometimes a tiny orange blossom gift left on the counter. These gestures come from the heart. They are our way of saying we see you, we appreciate you, and we are grateful for the trust you place in us. We love plants, we love homes, and we love pets, and we take caring for all of them seriously.
This work matters more than anything we have done. It is intimate and meaningful and rooted in service. We became the pet sitters we needed, and in many ways still need, and we are grateful every day for the families who let us be part of their world. It’s a gift.
