Meet Kristen Lanier of Southern Grounds Craft Coffee Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Lanier.

Hi Kristen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Southern Grounds Craft Coffee Shop began as a love for good coffee. My husband and I come from small towns and small family-owned businesses and what we realized our town was missing was a good craft coffee shop, so we thought, let’s create a great craft coffee shop that offers unique menu items, locally made and something that supports our community. We opened our doors June 27, 2019, just one month after our son, Connor, was born and the journey has continued on; now entering our second year, we welcomed our little girl, Madilynn. My husband and I understand the hard work and dedication it takes to run a small business as both of our families have been thankful to be in business for 30+ years.

When deciding what coffee options we wanted to bring into the shop, we were blessed with an amazing local roaster, Split Oak Coffee Roasters; along with them, we carefully selected and created our blends that are roasted fresh each week and ground per order to offer the freshest beverages to you! We have a variety of beverages to offer, such as coffee, teas, smoothies, chillers, soft drinks. We also offer a variety of fresh pastries, such as cinnamon rolls, s’mores brownies, espresso chocolate chip cookies, caramel apple crumb cake, bagels and more! All of our retail items are locally made in the support of other small business. We love our shop and community and how much everyone gives back and supports one another. We could not do it without them! We hope to continue on for years to come! Our hours are Monday-Saturday 8-4 pm and Sunday’s 9-1 pm. You can check out our menu as well as order ahead at SouthernGrounds.coffee. Make sure and follow us on Instagram and Facebook for new specials and events!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Much like most other small business during a pandemic, it was a struggle to stay a float and stay present. We made a lot of changes and adjustments but so thankful to have made it through the worst of times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Southern Grounds Craft Coffee Shop?
The best thing that sets us apart from other coffee shops in the area is that my husband and I created our blends with our roaster and locally roast fresh each week, providing the freshest coffee to you! We offer a number of specialty iced latte beverages but definitely known for our “Keke. Other than coffee, we offer a variety of beverages such as Craft loose leaf teas, smoothies, chillers, and soft drinks. We also have a variety of fresh local pastries.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is to stay true to our mission and provide local items and support other local businesses bc the community is what supports you.
