Meet Kristy Garcia of Auburndale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Garcia.

Hi Kristy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began shortly after having my second child, during a time when I was experiencing a deep wave of postpartum depression. In the midst of that darkness, I discovered comfort and purpose in baking. What started as a form of therapy quickly became a passion, and I decided to share that love through every loaf I bake.

Baking sourdough became more than just creating bread, it became a way to heal, to connect, and to nourish others. Through my business, I aim to not only provide wholesome, gut-friendly food but also to spread awareness about mental health. I truly believe that without a healthy mind, you can’t live a healthy life. My hope is that every loaf carries a little love, healing, and encouragement for whoever receives it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been anything but smooth. One of the biggest challenges has been time management—especially since I bake everything from my basic home oven. Sourdough is delicate, and dough can easily overproof if I’m even slightly off schedule. As a one woman operation, baking 30 to 40 loaves on my own can definitely be overwhelming at times.

Another personal challenge has been stepping out of my comfort zone. I’m naturally introverted, so putting myself out there, networking, and connecting with others hasn’t come easily. But over time, I’ve realized that those uncomfortable moments have been the most rewarding.

One of the unexpected blessings of this journey has been the amazing community of vendors I’ve met along the way. They’ve helped me tremendously with advice, encouragement, and support. That sense of community has made all the difference and reminded me that I’m not alone in this

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the founder and baker behind Krust & Krumbs, a small batch sourdough microbakery rooted in the belief that food should nourish both the gut and the mind. I specialize in naturally leavened breads made with high quality, organic ingredients and no commercial yeast. Each loaf is hand shaped, and slow fermented for optimal flavor and nutrition.

What sets my work apart is the intentional care and personal connection I bring to each bake. I operate from my home kitchen using a standard oven proving that you don’t need industrial equipment to create beautiful, artisan-quality bread.

I’m most proud of building this business from scratch, during a time when I was seeking peace and healing. What started as a passion turned into a way to connect with others and support mental and physical wellness through real, honest food. Along the way, I’ve also been embraced by a wonderful community of local vendors and customers who believe in what I do.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honesty has been the most important quality in my journey. It shows up in how I run my business, communicate with customers, and create my products. I use real ingredients, share my process openly, and stay true to the intention behind my work. Which is to nourish people in a genuine, meaningful way. I believe people connect with that authenticity, and it’s what keeps them coming back.
