Meet Krysta Schroeder of Harlowe Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krysta Schroeder.

Hi Krysta, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Sure! Like many therapists, my journey into the mental health world started with a passion for helping others feel seen, heard, and empowered. I began my career in 2015, working at AdventHealth for Children as a NICU social worker. Being with families during such emotional and vulnerable times taught me so much about resilience, compassion, and the importance of truly being present.

After becoming a mom myself, I began to deeply understand how layered and complex motherhood can be—how easily we can lose ourselves while trying to do everything just right. That experience shifted something in me and made me want to create a space where women felt supported, validated, and never alone in what they were going through.

In November 2020, I opened Harlowe Counseling, a virtual therapy practice dedicated to helping women navigate anxiety, self-worth, perfectionism, motherhood, relationships, and life transitions. What started as a solo practice has grown into a thriving team of incredible therapists who are just as passionate about this work as I am.

Today, we’re proud to support women across Florida through virtual therapy—and in April 2025, we’re excited to be opening our very first in-person office in Lake Nona, FL!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road—but I don’t think it was supposed to be. When I started Harlowe Counseling in November 2020, my first son was just about six months old. I had just left my hospital job and was diving into private practice while also navigating new motherhood. Less than a year later, I was pregnant with my second. So I was building a practice from scratch while figuring out how to be a business owner, a therapist, and a mom all at once—it was a lot.

There were definitely moments where I questioned myself—honestly, I still do sometimes. My mentor lovingly refers to those moments as my “escape fantasy,” and she’s not wrong. But over time, I’ve really learned how to persevere through the hard seasons. I’ve done a lot of personal growth—really getting clear on my needs, my values, and how I want to show up not just as a therapist, but as a business owner and a leader.

What I’ve realized is that running a business in a way that authentically reflects who I am—and what’s right for my family and my team—might not look like how everyone else does it, but that’s okay. That’s what creates something meaningful and sustainable. At the end of the day, my hope is that everyone who comes in contact with Harlowe—whether it’s clients, colleagues, or team members—feels supported and empowered to be themselves.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Harlowe Counseling is a virtual therapy practice that specializes in supporting women across Florida through all seasons of life—whether they’re navigating anxiety, self-worth, motherhood, life transitions, or just trying to figure out who they are underneath the expectations and pressure of everyday life.

We’re known for being relatable, down-to-earth therapists who offer real solutions. We’re not the type of therapists who just nod and ask, “How does that make you feel?”—we’re here to show up authentically, provide practical tools, and help women feel empowered to create the life they want.

What sets us apart is that we genuinely care about the experience our clients have with us. From the first contact to ongoing sessions, we aim to make therapy feel approachable, supportive, and aligned with each client’s unique needs. Our team leads with empathy, meets clients where they are, and walks alongside them at their own pace.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that people often say, “I just felt like you got me” when they land on our website or reach out for the first time. That connection—that feeling of being truly seen—is exactly what we want to create. We also value being a team of therapists who live what we teach. We know the pressures of perfectionism, the mental load of motherhood, the messiness of personal growth—and we bring that understanding into the room with our clients.

We offer individual therapy for women, therapy for moms, couples therapy for parents adjusting to life with kids, and support for anxiety, self-esteem, trauma, and more. Everything we do is rooted in the belief that you don’t have to figure it all out alone—and that healing is possible when you feel safe, supported, and connected.

And soon, we’ll be expanding with our very first in-person office in Lake Nona, opening in April 2025. Whether virtual or in person, we’re here to help women reconnect with themselves and feel more fulfilled, confident, and grounded in who they are.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I don’t really consider myself a risk-taker in the adventurous, thrill-seeking kind of way. But when it comes to how I live my life and run my business, I’ve always been someone who questions the status quo. I’m deeply curious about why things are done a certain way—and whether they actually need to be. I think there’s so much opportunity in challenging the norm, in taking what’s working and rebuilding what’s not.

The biggest risk I’ve taken was leaving my secure hospital job and choosing to bet on myself and grow Harlowe Counseling. That choice has led to so much learning, growth, and alignment—but it’s also required me to fully trust myself and believe that I can figure things out, even when I don’t have all the answers.

I’ve come to see risk as necessary if you want to grow. It doesn’t always have to be something huge like quitting your job or starting a business—risk can be found in the everyday moments too. It’s introducing yourself to someone new, speaking up, sharing an idea, allowing yourself to be seen. As women, we’re often taught to play small or to be cautious, but I’ve found that leaning into those vulnerable moments is where the real transformation happens.

One of my favorite reminders is actually something I wrote myself and keep on a sticky note on my computer: “The jump toward success and failure is the same.” The only way to know what’s possible is to jump. Even if it doesn’t go the way you hoped, you’ve still moved forward from where you were. And I think that’s what risk is really about—not guaranteeing the outcome, but choosing to trust yourself enough to take the leap anyway.
