Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Leatherman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I picked up a passion for music at a young age. I didn’t really get into making my own until I was about 18 years old. It was a small hobby at first, just writing to jazz instrumentals, video game soundtracks, etc. I dropped a few parody tracks in 2019 and ended up dropping several more serious ones in 2020 – 2021. I ended up losing my sister in October of 2021 and took a hiatus from music. I focused on bettering myself and working on my other passion – cooking. In late 2023 I ended up dropping 2 tracks from the vault because I had motivation to come back. I lost that motivation and didn’t drop again for almost a year or so. In September of 2024 I had a sudden urge to get back to my old passion and began taking it more seriously than I ever have before; dropping 2 singles that month and my first debut album on October 1st. I have so many ideas and messages to put out there I can’t wait to drop more!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m 25 and I live in a trailer park none or less. I’ve struggled financially with my mom since highschool and took my first full time job in highschool. I’ve worked ever since in the food industry and have struggled with time. I missed out on a lot of opportunities due to responsibilities and work, I lost my pets and my sister and struggled with a really deep depression. A pain I still fight with to this day and I talk all about it in my album. I believe I live a great and beautiful life but yet seem to find myself feeling empty, life is wierd.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love making music, my artist name is Uta K. I have an extremely creative mind and I love to express my thoughts and emotions in story telling fashion. I’m not like your run of the mill rapper, I don’t sound the same like all of these upcoming musicians. I make music for me and it’s to invoke emotion in the listeners. My album “golfcove” is a great example of this. I use it to vent and It has helped me greatly through the years. I’m proud of my music and I believe my sister would be too. I talk about her alot on the tracks, specifically 1999, and Goya.
I’m not big yet but the people who do listen to my music find my songs relatable. I have a lot more on the way!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I realized life is the most beautiful thing in the world. Everyone is stuck in a bubble and worry about the most little things in their life. There is so much going on in this world – wars, crime, fires, etc, and we’re worried about what to eat for dinner. It’s funny when you really think about it. I learned to look at life at a bigger picture and even though I’m not perfect and find myself to take things for granite I always try to humble myself and love what I have. I wish more people could grasp this concept.
