Today we’d like to introduce you to Lafayette Albury.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, my name is Lafayette Albury! I am a 25-year-old Afro Caribbean woman from Port Orange, Florida. I lost my mom at a very young age to ovarian cancer. Both my parents were immigrants, born in the Bahamas and did not complete high school, but I always used that as a reason to work harder because I wanted to make them proud and to be an example for my siblings. I was born in Albany, Georgia and then relocated to Florida, where my grandparents stepped in after the loss of my mother and continued to raise me. Unfortunately, my grandmother was also diagnosed with breast cancer, again I was faced with unforeseen challenges. I witnessed my grandmother’s confidence fade and it broke my heart, nevertheless, she kicked cancer’s butt. I continued to always be grateful for the support system I was given but I was determined to create a life where I could take care of my family and also impact women on a personal level.
I graduated high school with a 3.9 GPA and went on to achieve my Associate’s degree. After I achieved my degree, I continued on to the University of Central Florida, where I completed two semesters but knew it was not my passion. I returned home and decided to attend a local beauty school to become a Full Specialist, which is an Esthetician and Nail tech duo. I’ve always had a passion for making a woman feel beautiful, especially for the women who are battling cancer or have faced similar struggles. I went on to achieve my tattoo license for permanent makeup and then branched out into advanced skincare, where I’ve been able to impact many women who have suffered from problematic skin. My why has always remained the same, I never want any woman to think that they are not beautiful. I took action and created a business off of faith and skill. Ultimately, I want to impact women all over the world. The Haus of Lafayette offers luxury beauty services while creating a warm and welcoming, safe space for all to come and be pampered!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been easy. When I decided to become an entrepreneur, I knew I would have to put in the work. Luckily, I come from a family of entrepreneurs, which made my decision more enticing but still not easier. Like many, I have had to deal with rejection, my fair share of business coaches as well as facing generational traumas as best as I can, self-sabotaging and just self-doubt which has caused anxiety. This has prompted me to really find the importance of mental health, especially in the black community, which isn’t spoken about enough. I’ve made it my mission to break these generational cycles and find ways to channel my fears and traumas by journaling, meditating and seeking therapy. As for rejection, I see it as a blessing, knowing that the opportunities that are for me will show up when the time is right. I don’t see these as setbacks but as motivation to continue to fight for what I want. In order to have a thriving business, I need to thrive and I will do whatever it takes to make this my reality.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The Haus of Lafayette Aesthetics is in the start-up phase! At the moment, we are solely offering makeup services, brows and lash lifts. Currently, BROWS are our thing. I promise you won’t regret it! In the near future, we will be a full-service beauty bar. We are all-inclusive, welcoming any and everyone. I think the fact that I’m young, educated, and I’ve really experienced the world gives me a fresh outlook! I love to travel, and with that, I have observed so many different cultures as well as me having a diverse background. I believe this helps me to understand that everyone you meet has depth and there’s beauty in that! The Haus is all about the experience and how a beautiful interaction and flawless service really can impact a person’s life.
We want to offer you quality services and quality experiences. We are a family and when you leave, you will feel it. It’s about the vibe and the vibe never lies.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, if you probably asked anyone close to me they’d say I was driven, headstrong, energetic and feisty! And where’s the lie?! I’ve always loved all things beauty, especially makeup and nails. My parents really encouraged me to express myself through my art! I began my freelance makeup journey at the age of 15 and soon after landed a job at Sephora! Traveling was very big with my family, and each summer, my grandparents would take my siblings and I to Spain for a month or two to experience my grandfather’s culture! To say the least, I was living my best teen life! Immediately, I fell in love with the different beauty standards and how everything was much more raw! My passion just grew from that point on and here I am now, still traveling till this day! I love a good vacation!
