Meet Lana Joseph of L. Marcius Joseph & Associates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana Joseph.

Hi Lana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I migrated in the United States at the age of 12 from Haiti, from a relatively poor family from one of the poorest nations in the western Hemisphere. I was new to the country, the culture, and the language. Living in a drug-infested neighborhood in Orlando with a Single dad (my mother was still stuck in Haiti due to the immigration process) who works two dishwashing jobs made it difficult as a young girl to acclimate in the US.

Thank God, through mentorship, dedicated church members, and family, I overcame the barriers and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. Although I work in the Information Technology field for so many years, my heart yearns for a more purposeful calling. In 2006, I attended Armstrong Atlantic University and obtained my master’s degree in Health Services Administration.

Shortly, in 2009, my siblings and I opened an office where we serve and educate the communities in the area of finance with the highest level of expertise, respect, and integrity. Throughout our efforts, I have been blessed to witness lives that have been touched and changed. However, many people have had difficulties and challenges navigating the court and justice system. As I witnessed their fight to obtain clarity in this complex system, their despairs, and the injustice that they face, I was appalled and knew that change was inevitable. So, I took the challenge and went to law school to become an attorney and a zealous advocate for my community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My life has been built and secured on the challenges that I face. Coming to a new country and learning a new language was one of my biggest challenges. I remember attending middle school and I could not understand or communicate with my teachers and peers. My first two years in the U.S. was extremely frustrating and overwhelming. However, through discipline and dedication, I learn the English language and was able to excel in school, and graduated with honors.

From an early age, I knew I was passionate about helping others but was unsure of the direct path. Over time, I realize nothing satisfies my soul more than being an advocate for the voiceless and the powerless.

Several years later with a family of two young boys and an established business, I decided to attend law school. It was a hard decision to endure and very difficult to get accepted to a law school. I was initially rejected by all the GA school that I applied for. I had to move out of state to attend the first semester of law school in Florida. Leaving my family behind in Georgia was one of the hardest decisions that I had to make but the sacrifice was worth my community and the cause I set out to defend.

Now as an attorney, I have had the opportunity to help people in the most powerful way in their lowest moment. I am excited to be of service to my community and my country.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our law firm focuses on Immigration, criminal defense, and personal injury. As a Haitian immigrant, I have personally experienced injustice in the system and truly understand our clients’ concerns. For example, immigrants who are seeking immigration benefits have often been deceived and misguided by people who pretend to be helping them. Also, there are times those who are helping are just genuinely not competent enough to help, they lack the cultural context and nuances of their situations, and in turn, they may steer them in wrong directions which can adversely affect them. Knowing how the wrong help can potentially hurt them and even destroy their family relationship, I have embarked on this journey determined to help my community in every possible way. Our heart is with those we serve and we go the extra miles to bring relief their situations. No case is too small and no situation is beyond help. We serve our client with Passion, Integrity, and Expertise. We take care of clients like it is our own family business and we promise to be a phone call away anytime trouble comes their way. Our promise to is to fight for our clients vigorously in court or off the court.
