Today we’d like to introduce you to Lau Santos.

Hi Lau, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to the United States a few years ago with just my son who was only 9 years old at the time. I’m an accountant and I’ve always worked for American companies, so I came with the dream of improving my English and also taking a course in my field. But as soon as I arrived here, I realized the opportunity in the cleaning area after I met some women who asked me to get them work and that’s why I started my cleaning business. Having a cleaning business also gave me the flexibility to take care of my son, as I was the only one responsible for him. But not only that, I fell in love with the business and the opportunity to transform people’s lives. So, I do what I do with passion. Since the beginning, I used my knowledge as an accountant, as an auditor to implement checklists for clients and procedures on how to do the job in a more professional way and that got me where I am now.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting any business can be quite challenging especially if you do it alone. I would say there were 3 big challenges, finding good people to work with, negotiating with clients from a different culture and pleasing them and the competition.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lau Business Services (Lau Cleaning)?
My Business Name is Lau Business Services (Lau Cleaning) and we do Residencial Cleaning, Office Cleaning, Deep Cleaning, move in, move out Cleaning and organizing as well. We have learned from our mistakes, and I believe now we are ready to serve the pickiest customers. For sure what sets us apart from other cleaning businesses is because We are passionate about what we do, and I know the customers can feel it. Most of my new customers come from referrals that proves we are doing a great job. We have special fees for recurring/regular services I can come to the customer to give a free estimate. My main concern is to make the customers happy so we can discuss in the first visit (or even by phone) if they have any allergies or restrictions about and products like and scents that they do not like or if they prefer to use their own product, so we have a personal care with any customer. We have eco-friendly products too and pets friendly as well.

How do you think about luck?
The good luck is to have flexibility to spend more time with my son. It would not be possible if I had a regular job working from 8 to 5, without any support from my family who live abroad, so I can arrange my schedule to work while he is at school. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have my own business, helping other women to have job and make our customers happy with a clean home.
