Meet Lauren Santiago of Saint Cloud, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Santiago

Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a love for all things paper. Whether its a cute notebook or a greeting card that caught my attention, I always had a knack for collecting things I thought were either packaged nicely or fit my personality. You can ask my husband, I had an obsession at one point. Something about the attention to detail that product producers would place into their brand and stuff, it always made me pay up.

Fast forward to about 5 years ago, I was working at paper source. I would stock and restock products and as I did so I would review the quality and overall presentation of the paper products and kinda came to the realization, “Well heck, I can do this.” So I gave it a go and here I am.

I’ve learned a lot and experienced many things along the way. Something that stuck with me all these years is packaging means everything, and that feeling of opening a new product and getting those vibes of paper texture feel and new paper scent. My client’s, I hope, will always get a sense of attention to detail with every product I sell and every package they receive from me. 😀

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve learned that devil is in the details. It’s not be smooth. I’ve an overwhelmingly supportive base and fan base, but it’s been hard. Something that keeps me going is the feedback I receive from every client, they love the products.

The biggest struggle I’ve had is good marketing. I feel that is everyones struggle but I believe once we figure out the strategy and gain a bigger customer base, it’ll smooth out for sure.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Tortoise Designs, I create eco-friendly, USA-made stationery that combines modern elegance with a personal touch. My work specializes in hand-drawn calligraphy and illustrations, offering chic and simplified designs that resonate with brides, moms, and boutique shoppers alike. Each product is carefully crafted on high-quality, textured paper that emulates the feel of an original canvas, making every piece as unique as the person who receives it.

What I’m most proud of is the connection my work fosters. Whether it’s a bride seeing her vision come to life or someone sending a heartfelt card, my designs help people celebrate and share meaningful moments. It’s a humbling experience to know that my work becomes part of someone’s story.

What sets me apart is the care I put into every step of the process. From the eco-friendly materials to the branded packaging, no detail is overlooked. I want every customer to feel that their order was made just for them. My seven years in the wedding industry have shaped this approach, as I’ve learned to translate clients’ visions into tangible, memorable creations.

At the heart of it all, I’m a mom of three, building a business that reflects my values and provides for my family—proving that creativity and sustainability can come together to make something truly special.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and take risks, with in reason of course. But I received a lot of success from going to trade shows and that took a leap of faith.
