Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawrence Nelson. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Lawrence is an experienced Entrepreneur/Mentor/Business owner originally from Miami, FL. To many surprised faces, Lawrence originally had no wanting to venture into business or management. After finishing college with a marketing degree, Lawrence decided to expand his company to central Florida, where he currently resides.
“It feels different when you walk into an office of dedicated individuals. It’s as if winning is the only choice”. Ready for a strong year coming, Lawrence is expected to open two new locations in Orlando and Atlanta by the end of 2021. He also works hand-in-hand with his HR and Business Partner, Emma, to make sure the growth of the organization is headed on the right track. Originally from Chicago, IL, Emma attended Flagler College in Saint Augustine, where she graduated with her Bachelor’s in Strategic Communication in 2018.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, yes! We face obstacles much like any other company. The difference, however between growth and staying stagnant is all about how you handle the obstacles. Making sure you are surrounded by the right individuals will always leave you experiencing growth, no matter how fast or slow it is. COVID had a big impact on our organization last year. However, we bounced back very quickly and are seeing plans for expansion by the end of this year due to the growth post-pandemic. We have actually seen more promotions since returning from COVID, so it is bound to be an exciting year for us!
As you know, we’re big fans of W.E Acquisitions. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
At W.E Acquisitions, we know that effective in-person campaigns do not happen by accident. Through our direct, in-person campaigns, we are out on the frontline every day, helping customers to get the best from the brands we represent and supporting widespread brand awareness. We have a client portfolio of about 35 different clients, which are both for-profit and non-profit organizations.
Our core values as a firm have helped lead us and set a standard for the individuals we bring into the firm. Everyone here has a similar mindset in terms of growth, and that by far is our biggest driving force for the success we have seen this past year. We choose to lead by example, making sure we have the right habits to foster a good work environment that is positive and uplifting. We are proud to say we have an amazing team of individuals who have helped us get to where we are now; we could not do it without them!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
In terms of finding a mentor, it is important to look at who is close to you in terms of where you want to be in the next couple of weeks, months, years, etc. Finding someone who is just a little bit more ahead but not too far from where you are is super important because they can give perspective on situations you will go through, and you can learn from them directly. Having someone who will provide true and honest feedback, even at times where maybe that is not what you want to hear, is something we look for in mentors as well. It will only allow you to grow personally and professionally.
Networking is a super big part of our industry and definitely fosters a growth environment. When you have people around you that genuinely want to see you grow, the conversations are different. I think the biggest part of networking, however is then applying the information received and that all comes from the motivation and dedication of the individual themselves.
