Today we’d like to introduce you to Madilyn Herrholtz.
Hi Madilyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a camera in my hand, but I took a film
Photography course in high school and fell in love. It allowed me to develop my own film in a dark room and truly learn the ins and out of a camera. I started my business officially in 2022 in Florida servicing Orlando, Cocoa Beach, Titusville, New Smyrna Beach and surrounding areas!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When it comes to opening a business, it is never a smooth road. It is hard learning the profession, finding the right style, and developing strong organization skills. There’s days now where I make a mistake with settings or second guess myself. I’ve learned to work with all different types of light, but still panic a little when the sun isn’t peeking out for sunset. I love the craft and always try to push myself to learn. In this business, sometimes the hardest part is the concept of “comparison is the thief of joy”, especially in a digital age. You see everyone’s work or how busy they are and question yourself. It’s easy to compare to others, but I try to remember we all bring something unique to the table. Community over competition any day!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in family, maternity, senior portraits, and weddings. I spend a ton of time on the beach, but I offer sessions in the Orlando area. I think one of my strengths is delivering a variety of photos. I always include different poses, angles, and lighting. I have fun with kids playing games and making it less stressful. I also provide prompts over just traditional posing for natural responses! I work hard to tell a story and capture each family’s essence.
Any big plans?
I am moving more into weddings and I’m looking forward to connecting to brides. I feel like I avoided weddings for a while because it seemed like I was niched down into family, but I realized recently I could do both family and wedding! I truly love weddings and they’re such a good time. I hope to grow my business in this way, but I also hope to provide a more streamlined booking process. In addition, I want to give back to the community that supports me by providing local client discounts and referral discounts. I couldn’t be successful without my clients, so showing up for them is just as important as them showing up for me.
