Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Watts.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Vatt Media Marketing is Social Media Marketing and Videography business that I began in 2020 during the Covid-19 Pandemic. I use social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, and Youtube to build brands and help a business digital reach over a large audience looking for that certain service or product. Seeing the rise of content creation and the need that many of my peers developed skills that they enjoyed while bringing them another form of income opened my eyes. I asked myself, “what is something that I am passionate about?” I needed something that I knew, without doubt, I would not mind spending my time and money to develop and build the skills to a craft that I would enjoy, so I looked to my roots.
Growing up, I developed a passion for cinema, videography, and storytelling. These passions branched from the afternoons I spent with my father after school watching movies together over the years. Those afternoons were usually what I looked forward to during the day while in school. Watching different genres of movies from comedy to thriller and animated movies to what I would believe is A-list movies from C-list movies. I would later learn to figure out who my favorite directors are and continue to learn from their works. Christopher Nolans and Quentin Tarantino are my Top Directors and I am excited to see what abstract work they send out when they are finished.
During my time in middle school, I found passion in symphonic, jazz, and orchestral music as well, and that played a big role in why I fell in love with cinema so much through the original scores that would play during movies or shows during my time as an undergrad at UCF. Unfortunately, later, I had developed an illness known as Crohn’s disease, to which I became dangerously sick, losing approximately 80 pounds in the span of 3 weeks. I was sent to the hospital and during my recovery, I spent even more time watching different movies, music videos, tv shows, and anything that generally had to do with video content. My father suggested to me that I should look into Youtube and start a channel vlogging. I really didn’t think too much of it but I saw an opportunity to follow my passion for storytelling through a lens. I spent my first Vlog in Chicago visiting some of my best friends Kareem and Carrie, as we spent the weekend exploring downtown Chicago, eating at fancy restaurants, and walking the streets of the Windy City to catch eye-popping views. I began to mentally break out of my shell of being in front of the camera there and even though that was the first video I edited and created I later learned to hone and develop my editing skills through more travel vlog opportunities.
During my time at the University of Central Florida, I was influenced by another of my best friends to explore my interest in social media marketing through the skills she developed as a major in her education. She gave me tips based from her various jobs and internships that would later cultivate me into learning more for myself and bring both my passion of videography and my interest of social media marketing together.
Through these methods and experiences, I was able to teach myself what I know about Videography and Social Media Marketing. Due to the encounters of the friends and family, I keep around me, my passions and interest were able to be reciprocated in a way that will help many in the future.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth whatsoever. In 2016, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness called Crohn’s Disease that later diminished my quality of life. Battling depression, taking an extended break from working, school, and social life to find my purpose and heal as best as I could from my illness. Battling personal problems that lingered due to family issues. Just to later find the fire that lit underneath me to tackle the world again and pull myself up to where I am now a graduate and building my business and skills every day to perfect my craft.
