Today we’d like to introduce you to Maristela Rocha Ruiz Cerqueira.
Hi Maristela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a simple woman with big dreams. I started working when I was 11 and haven’t stopped since. My parents left me a precious lesson: study and work, and that’s how I graduated in Law and built, together with my husband, one of the largest Financial Services companies in Brazil, having been sold with 4000 employees. The company sold, and I started my new journey, this time writing about my experiences as a mother, woman, and businesswoman, awakening those who need an example to know that anything is possible. Today, my husband and I work together again, developing people through mentoring and courses.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No way, it always took work. On the contrary, every growth process has pain. We go through all phases of a company, including sales, so we suffer a lot.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Through our mentoring, we can empower local entrepreneurs, reducing the pain of each phase of the company; we share knowledge to multiply results. We immortalize our life experiences and those of entrepreneurs through our books.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I learned a lot on my journey as a businesswoman, but my mother, a simple person, made me see that I had to balance my professional and personal life. Anyone who is a businessman knows exactly what I’m talking about: we donate a lot to the company. One day, on her deathbed with cancer, she asked me, in all her simplicity, why I worked so much, and my answer was immediate: Mom, I love working! Then she asked me another question: what else do you want to buy that your money can’t believe today? And at this question, I remained still and thoughtful; I could see that my daughter already needed me more than my work. On this day, I decided to sell the company. That’s when I decided to change my life, care for my children, and change countries. I started my second journey, helping people realize that there is much more than money to achieve. The most outstanding achievement is having your non-negotiable values, being firm with them, and passing them on to others.
