Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlyn Bonzil-Juste.
Marlyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I migrated to the United States at the tender age of 11 years old, where I lived with my grandmother and aunt. During that time, our home country, Haiti, was facing much political unrest and turmoils. I learned to face many challenges early on, including adapting to a new culture and learning a third language—English (I spoke primarily French and Creole).
Unbeknownst to me, the hurdles and challenges I faced as a young immigrant would be the catalysts to the many strides I gained later on in my adult life. Upon graduating from high school, I relocated to New England, Massachusetts where I acquired a Bachelor of Science in Business Admin from Fitchburg State University. The love and support from my family, although thousands of miles away, were comforting during the lonesome days of attending classes and working graveyard shifts to support my educational journey.
Shortly after my college graduation, I married my high school sweetheart and moved back home to Sunny Florida, and started a family. From there, I embarked upon diverse professional work experiences ranging from business development, marketing, strategic client development, project delivery, and business relations. Such allowed my network to grow exponentially and sharpen my expertise.
I then pursued my grad program and obtained a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Purdue University. After much research and preparation, I proceeded to launch MJ Solutions LLC, a business solutions firm offering healthcare and legal consulting services. In 2019, I became the proud recipient of a prestigious Entrepreneur award by Women On The Rise. I acquired the title as a best-selling author, with a collaborative publication entitled, Broken Chains.
More recently, I watched elderly members of our family struggle with getting to and fro medical appointments, due to impairments. Their caregivers were at the mercy of nonemergent transportation companies to assist; yet, they would show up hours later or not at all. It was heart-wrenching. I quickly identified a lack of customer service and access within that industry. Moreover, female owners were slim to none. Hence, the birth of Top Choice Medical Transport; which I co-founded with my husband in 2020! A non-emergency medical transportation company.
To ensure that I keep an active pulse in the community at large, especially the Haitian-Caribbean and African-American markets, I have had the honor to serve on many boards of directors, including the Human Relations Diversity Board for the city of Ocoee. And currently was elected as the President of the Greater Haitian American Chamber of Commerce- Orlando.
I stand firmly behind my motto, Create Yourself while serving others. Such has fueled my passion to continually evolve and deepen my fond belief in practicing a holistic approach to living. For the past few years, I’ve orchestrated a yearly workshop entitled “Your Best Life: Self-Care For The Modern Woman”. A conference that empowers women to invest in their wellbeing. It is my contribution to continue to promote advocacy for wellness and diversity.
Today, I take great pride in being a successful female entrepreneur and investor. More importantly, to live and share the roadmap behind my motto while curating my own legacy!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It certainly has not been smooth sailing.
The hurdles entailed being separated from my parents early on; working graveyard shifts to support my educational journey; losses in the process of launching new ventures, time away from children; being dismissed numerous times as a black, female entrepreneur.
Yet, I am grateful for the many challenges I faced, as they were catalysts to the strides I’ve gained along the journey.
