Today we’d like to introduce you to Marta A Oppenheimer
Hi Marta A, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello OrlandoVoyager! I am a twice divorced woman searching for love in Miami, the land of palm trees, hurricane warnings, and Kim Kardashian lookalikes. I write about it on my blog, thedatingdaysofmartao.com. In between dates, I am a published writer, graphic artist, storyteller, spoken word performer, and a non-profit animal rescue group volunteer. My stories have appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Miami Living Magazine, and The Bad Day Book.
I share my words on stage. I performed on The Moth Miami StorySlam, Miami Book Fair, Lip Service Stories: True Stories Told Out Loud, Raw Storytelling: Live True Storytelling Show, and on radio at The Only in Miami Show. I have even dabbled with Improv. I am a graduate of the Villain Theater’s Improv Foundations classes. Read my story, “In my 50s… Abuela Does Improv”, you will want to do Improv too.
One of my short stories, “Love in a Pumpkin”, became a short film and an Official Selection of multiple film festivals. The trailer is on thedatingdaysofmartao.com.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I married my first boyfriend. We married young, grew up, divorced as adults. Next, I married a lazy dreamer who preferred playing a gladiator on the computer over being a responsible adult in the real world. I have been a twice divorced woman out there in the dating world for the past two decades. Dating, in Miami, in my 40s (and now my 50s) is not an easy thing to do. Instead of drowning in sorrow and pints of Ben & Jerry’s (the two best men in my life), I write about it all on my blog, thedatingdaysofmartao.com, and share the horror that is dating. I figure I can help women relate. Let them know they are not alone. That dating plain sucks, and we should laugh about it. And, yes, it is ok to dive into Cherry Garcia too.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The ladies who follow thedatingdaysofmartao.com often ask for love advice and promptly share their own dating disasters. Read my blog post, “In my 50s… Vodka and Prune Juice”, about a date at the senior’s center. The dream of love never ends.
I have become a Dating Dr Phil. It is a wonderful feeling to be there for other women. Women supporting women, the way it should always be.
I also recognize that a past suitor might fear which story ends up on thedatingdaysofmartao.com. Just in case, to give you gentlemen peace of mind, all my stories are created from the words that dance inside my head. Like Disney’s Figment, I use my imagination.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Now my first date is via Zoom or Teams or anything virtual. No more long boring dates over coffee. I do not even like coffee. This new way of dating is magnificent. I can check a guy out from the comfort of my home. All I need is a computer, a pretty shirt, and my lipstick. I can wear my pajama bottoms and “chancletas” while I am on a date. How cool is that?
