Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercedes George.
Hi Mercedes, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Mercedes George and I’m the owner of Garnished by George. It has been my dream to start a business of my own for years, but I was always too busy with my career or attending graduate school. I just felt that I didn’t have the time. However, after I had my daughter, I decided to take a break from work and school to raise her. During this break, I thought to myself that now is the time to pursue my dream. I might never have this opportunity again to focus on what I really wanted to do versus what I felt I had to do. After much thought, I recalled a friend of mine making a comment that cheese boards are my thing, and then it hit me! Cheese boards are MY THING! That is how Garnished by George came to fruition!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There was a massive amount of research involved, a lot of questions, and of course some self-doubt in the beginning. Trial and error has been my best friend throughout this journey, but I know it is all part of the learning curve. Perhaps, my biggest struggle is running a new business while working and raising a toddler. Juggling all of my responsibilities has been tough, but I love what I do and believe in my business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Garnished by George, we want to elevate your social experience with your friends and family by providing artfully arranged charcuterie boards, boxes, and grazing tables. We specialize in curating savory pairings on our boards and only use high-quality meats, cheeses, and fruits. We not only strive to produce delicious boards but we also take pride in the details! Our boards are beautiful and made with so much love for each of our clients!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Traveling! I love to travel, learn new things, and of course eat new things! The travel bug hit me about six years ago after I made my first solo trip to Boston. I had never traveled alone, especially to a city I had never been, but I felt inspired by other solo travelers so I booked my flight and never looked back. I was able to see Boston on my own terms and I didn’t have to worry about what someone else wanted to do or see. It was a wonderful, freeing experience for me. Since that trip, I got married and I’ve traveled to countless places with my husband including Napa and Greece.
