Meet Micah Talley of ORLANDO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Talley

MICAH, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in a challenging environment, music became my sanctuary. While my parents faced their own struggles, I found solace and escape in the melodies that surrounded me.

Experiencing domestic violence against my mother and feeling neglected by my father fostered a profound sense of isolation. In this turbulent atmosphere, music provided a refuge, numbing the pain and offering a semblance of control amid the chaos.

As I navigated the complexities of adolescence, I grappled with establishing genuine friendships. Betrayals and losses further deepened my sense of isolation, yet music remained a steadfast companion. I began to reflect on my identity: Why was I born? Was I destined to mirror those around me? Why did my hometown seem plagued by despair?

Upon starting high school in 2015, I confronted these questions directly. Music was my sole source of happiness and the one thing I would willingly sacrifice for, even in the face of an uncertain future.

After two years at McClure High School, I was expelled and placed in an alternative school for smoking marijuana on campus, along with accumulating demerits for playing loud music in the hallways. During the subsequent two years, I had the opportunity to collaborate with professional artists such as Slim Jesus and Danny Boy of Death Row Records, as well as notable da kSt.Louis musicians like Juice 23 and Trixie Leray.

I also had the chance to meet Warren G and present my art alongside other local St. Louis artists. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties at home, my work and sleep schedules became overwhelming, causing me to miss this pivotal opportunity. From Warren G’s perspective, my absence may have conveyed a lack of commitment, leading to feelings of disappointment.

This experience prompted me to reconsider my future in the music industry in St. Louis. I ultimately decided to move to Florida, seeking the knowledge and skills offered at Full Sail University. My goal was to draw closer to my idols and demonstrate that music is more than just a passion for me; it is an integral part of my being, as essential as food is to the body.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been long and fraught with challenges that tested my resilience at every turn. I faced the constant specter of death in my community, which weighed heavily on my psyche. Law enforcement encounters added to my stress, while financial instability made it difficult to focus on my passions. My relationships were continuously strained due to the pressure of family health issues and my own mental health struggles. This compounded by the impact of COVID-19 and its physical toll on my family. Living in a series of Airbnbs without notice created a sense of instability, while experiences of robbery further eroded my sense of safety. At work, managing a creative team brought its own set of challenges, including internal conflicts and toxic environments that drained my energy. Each of these struggles has shaped me, instilling a deeper understanding of perseverance and the importance of finding solace in music amid the chaos. Finding solace in the art of creation…
