Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Sanchez.
Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After graduating from UCF, I moved closer to Downtown Orlando in the Milk District/Mills50 area and was so excited for all of the businesses that were walking distance from me! I grew up in rural Virginia and went to high school in Fort Myers, Florida. Both places are not extremely walkable, so this was an experience I had never had before and I loved it! I started taking photos and sharing on social media about all of the local businesses I was visiting. My husband said I should start an Orlando blog or social media as a platform to share everything on, and he actually came up with the name “MadeInOrlando.” It’s been about four and a half years since then.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think I have experienced a smooth journey. I have made so many real-world relationships and friendships from my social media account.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do have a full-time job, but MadeInOrlando is a creative outlet for me. I share some of my favorite places to visit in Central Florida as well as try out new businesses that people may not know about. I specialize in Orlando area food, beverage, and events.
I think what sets me apart is some of the other platforms I work in/for. I am on WPRK 91.5 (Rollins Station) Wednesdays from 5-7 with Frankie Messina for the State of the Scene Show, where I give updates on the foodie scene in Orlando. Additionally, I am the Editorial Coordinator for Winter Garden Lifestyle Magazine. Both of these relationships stemmed from my work with MadeInOrlando. I have a few other projects in the works, but I am not quite ready to announce those. 🙂
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Definitely my husband. He’s my hand model in most cases and goes along with me to the majority of my outings. Shout out to my Husky, Ghost! He keeps me sane when things are stressful or I am down on myself.
