Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Lynch.
Hi Mike, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated high school in 2005 and immediately moved to Orlando Florida. I jumped into music almost immediately taking gigs and basically getting comfortable enough to do my own show. After several years of doing 100-200 shows a year in April 2018, I became a full-time musician. I average around 300 gigs a year now and live happily in Baldwin park.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My main struggle as a musician is keeping it fun and new every show. It’s very easy getting stuck and kind of phoning in the show. I treat every show as if someone else is watching me ready to take my job. I play with a massive chip on my shoulder and try to crush my self-doubt every gig I play.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in being a one-man band entertainer musician. I want people to watch me play and say “I’ve never seen someone do that before.” I try to pick songs that others don’t play and I’m not afraid at all at taking a chance on something I’ve never done before. I think crowds tend to like me because I don’t take myself to seriously to the common eye. I also pride myself in not being boring. I want to make my Crowd laugh and be a part of my show.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I had a mentor in my early years to help me with stage presence, song selection, and not being afraid of playing songs for ME. Now I found myself more as a mentor to younger musicians to maybe help guide them in the right direction or help them land gigs for themselves.
