Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Lujan.
Hi Mikey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In February of 2020, I decided to follow my dreams and audition to be a character performer for the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World. I ended up getting the job, but unfortunately due to COVID-19, the program was cancelled and I was extremely devastated. Despite this, I decided to turn my fuel into fire and started making Tik Toks dressed as my favorite Disney characters and singers since I was eager to perform. It started off as a quarantine hobby, but throughout the last year or so I’ve been able to gain nearly 20,000 followers and over 1,000,000 likes. In the midst of all this, the Disney College Program was brought back this summer, and even though I am no longer a character performer due to entertainment not being fully brought back since the pandemic, I am so happy to continue my journey in the most magical place on earth and share it with people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but I’m grateful for all the little bumps here and there because without them I wouldn’t be as resilient as I am today. Getting told that I wouldn’t be able to be a performer for Disney anymore due to the Corona virus was absolutely devastating, especially since it was entirely out of my control. However, I probably wouldn’t have started making Tik Toks if we hadn’t gone into shutdown. It just goes to show that everything happens for a reason.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for making Tik Tok videos, mainly ones where I dance and perform as my favorite pop culture icons. I’d say I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to make something good out of a horrible situation (my Disney College Program being cancelled due to COVID). I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic. I may not be the most talented person in the world, but I’m not afraid to take risks and always jump for any opportunity that comes my way.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to still be a character performer for Walt Disney World. Once they bring back entertainment and I get to fulfill that goal, I’d love to move to Las Vegas and try to become a dancer at a local venue there, but that probably won’t be for a couple years until I finish school. After that, I plan on moving to LA or New York to pursue a career in acting, music, or dance. The sky is the limit!
