Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Johnson
Monique, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My entrepreneur journey started in 2020 when Covid hit. I was a server and bartender at Outback Steakhouse and was laid off due to COVID. I decided to start selling clothes, Ethika boxers, and pajamas since most store fronts were shut down as well. My dear friend Amanda (RIP) reached out to me and really started pushing me to take my business to the next level and I started participating in her pop up shops. I would be lying if I said I didn’t get discouraged many times but I kept pushing. To fund my clothing business I started working for a tax preparation company. I actually did better than expected and built a great clientele which inspired me to start my own tax preparation company. Here I am 2025 and I’m proud to say that I’m an aspiring serial entrepreneur and I now run a successful tax preparation company. I also have started my new journey in real estate, travel agent, content creation, and waxing. My advice to anyone wanting to be an entrepreneur is to always keep pushing and never give up. This is definitely not for the weak but if you put your mind to it you can do it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! There were so many days I wanted to give up! I have experienced betrayal, theft, bad friendships, and lots of down talking. I never gave up though. Through the bad I had just as many good things and people that believed in me and kept pushing me. I also learned that you have to invest in yourself. Always find ways to become better at anything you want to do.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer many different services hence the word emporium lol I am mostly known as the “tax lady” but not only do I offer tax preparation for individuals and businesses but I also do real estate, travel agent, content creation, and waxing. I plan to be known as a serial entrepreneur one day. What sets me apart from many others is that in all of my businesses I strive to treat everyone personally and not make money my main goal. My business was inspired from the loss of my Nana in 2017. I turned my pain into passion and it’s so much more than just making money for me. I’m proud of my genuine intentions for my clients because unfortunately many business owners don’t really care about the clients. Most of my clients have been with me for years and are the reason I have grown. I want the readers to know that whatever you put your mind to do it. I started my business with a dollar and a dream. Don’t let money be your motivation. Find your passion. It will automatically bring the money. Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people who know me or my brand don’t know that I’m a real life homebody. I love to travel so that’s my outlet from life but my favorite thing to do is to be home with my husband and my children. I love cooking and cleaning my space. Believe it or not as life goes along that’s something I’ve learned to cherish because I don’t get to often as I use to.
