Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicalyn Tripalyn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Since 2016 I’ve been a full-time audiovisual artist working different multimedia roles through Gold Mined, a company I founded with Jasmine and Ryan in August 2015. Our goal has always been to provide a platform for artists to express and establish themselves with. I was born in the Philippines and raised in Central Florida – giving me access to scenes like art festivals, museums, performance theaters, and school programs. This sparked a lot of curiosity for creative practices throughout my life. Growing up, I was led to believe traditional views and that anything artsy was ‘only a hobby.’
I continued with a scholarly-focused outlook from Orlando to Tampa in college. I was major-hopping, trying so hard to find the “right path”. It was until I had a shifting epiphany within a deeply depressive state – that the only consistent interest I had was creative. I had to pursue what I knew was my zone of genius. ⏩ Fast forward, Gold Mined continues to offer artist branding and event production tasks to help people polish their presence. We get to provide genuinely good & creative people for client projects and expressive platforms.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges have been made most present during event production, from finding the best venue to communicating with everyone involved, and ensuring every detail has been thought of. Yet, it keeps pulling us because of its impact levels. The memories, connections, motivation to create, and overall inspiration makes it all so worth it.
It’s been mostly smooth since we make sure to pivot when something isn’t working without being too attached. We know growth is like a gradient instead of suddenly being where we want to be. We’ve been able to work at a pace that’s right for each of us, making it something we can consistently chip away at without burnout. It helps to have boundaries on we take on and a process that covers all of the necessary details.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve found that ‘audiovisual artist’ best describes my practices in both expression and production since my work always lands on the audio and visual spectrum. As an expression, I love *takes a deep breath* videography, drawing, painting, singing, and dancing. When producing for others, my expertise lands on (again) videography, graphic design, and event production. I believe my personal expression as an artist is my greatest strength in serving for others. It grants me a deep understanding of how to convey an idea creatively, even if apart from mine. I’m most proud of my positive and grounded outlook. It plays into my ethics, how I treat people, and ability to adapt.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I really appreciate support in the form of event attendance, purchasing art, and hiring for projects. This helps us build a system that gives more power to well-deserving people. If you have resources that can aid in our field, we would be so grateful!
