Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichole Holz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I started a family, I realized my life needed a slight dose of practicality. Instead of completing my degree in International Affairs, after having my first of three children, I decided to become a Paramedical Esthetician. I was surprised to find I really was suited to the field. My parents were MD and RN, so I enjoyed the medical aspect of skin care. I also was a dancer and model growing up, so Aesthetics was ingratiated to parts of my childhood. I was always trying to play Apothecary and come up with the magic concoction that will make my acne disappear overnight. In Esthetics School, I had a woman bring her grandson for facial services. The poor guy was close to being turned away, at a certain level acne has to be, and should be, under a doctors care. We ended up treating him and after a few months, he was a new guy. I even convinced him to let me slightly shape his overgrown brows, so you could see his eyes. By the time I graduated, we were looking at a whole new human being. It made such an impression on me. He liked seeing himself, he was confident…..I was able to help someone. It may be in small or seemingly superficial, but it’s something.
I also have had the opportunity to manage outpatient diagnostic facilities while my kids were growing up. I have been involved in international business, and have worked in Financial Management for a number of years. I collect and sell vintage art Last year, I re opened my Spa in Dr. Phillips and started working towards becoming a Dietician. I’m excited for the future.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road less traveled always has more obstacles, no one has yet cleared the way. I don’t mind an obstacle course. It keeps the mind, body and spirit fit.
I’ve had chaos, losses, failures, fears realized and brushes with death. It would be difficult to find anyone on this Earth that hasn’t. There are a lot more people with much greater struggles and accomplishments than I.
I’ve also had a great deal of prosperity, joy, love and balance in my life. I have learned a great deal.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I opened Aesthetikos Skin Care originally in 2010 and was open for 11 yrs . I recently re-opened in a new location and am really excited for the anticipated growth over the next year.
I specialize in custom skin care and lifestyle integration. I prefer to look at skin care from a wholistic approach and prioritize the long term wellness of my client and their skin. I consider myself the family esthetician. I like working with teens and young adults the most. If you can get them practicing good skincare, wellness and self preservation it feels like you are a part of their future. I like helping people who have health problems or are going through different stages of life….. navigate their skin care and/or wellness. I also enjoy helping the over stressed relax, dial down and feel at peace within their own skin.
I wouldn’t say I’m proud, but I would say every person that refers their family member, friend, patient, client or brings their child to Aesthetikos is a blessing. I appreciate their trust, and I keep it in high regard. In this respect, I take what I do very seriously. It is no small thing to me. I put a great deal of thought and consideration into every client. When I receive a referral, that is acknowledgement to me that it is never for not.
Skin Care has great deal of niches and I think they are all very interesting. I do not follow trends and I’m not there for the up -sale and social media post. Excellent skin care is what I am there for. Nutrition and wellness coaching provides my clients support in a more encompassing and relatable way. Aesthetikos is a place for my clients to prioritize themselves, how they look and how they feel.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risks are imminent I suppose. As long as they are calculated and well timed, they generally align with instinct. I am willing to take risks in a business sense. I am quite apposed to it in regard to my clients and their skin care. I’m actually quite conservative. I suppose the two balance out.
Anyone who is willing to start a business, go to school, pursuit a dream ……….has to risk failure. Financial, Physical, Mental efforts can go unappreciated. It happens. I would rather risk failure in order to live life in my own way, of my own standards and my own direction. That is a huge risk. No Social Media….huge risk business wise. I limit my exposure and potentially my income. I take that risk. Promoting quality of each inclusive service instead of upselling or making time limits……big risk. I take that risk. They are little choices perhaps, but they speak to who I am and what Aesthetikos represents to me.
With the skincare treatments and wellness coaching I am more conservative. I try to understand thoroughly my client, their needs and what is best for them based on a number of factors. The body is a complicated system, there are a lot of subtle details to discern. My clients are humans, not a dollar sign. I consider not only what is good for them now, but also for their future.
