Today we’d like to introduce you to Paola Bolivar.
Hi Paola, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in the beauty industry when I was very young, I obtained my esthetician license and after a long time of looking for work, I finally managed to get a job at a skincare clinic and spa. I wanted to do something different to stand out and be different from the other girls who worked there, so I decided to research and I found out about eyelash extensions. I took my certification in 2008 and fell in love with the process. I found my passion in the eyelash extension field and had to give up doing facials because of how much demand there was in the industry. After that, I worked very hard for many years until I was able to save up enough money to open my own salon. It took a lot of hard work and struggle but after a few years, I was able to pick the business up and to what it is now. At this moment, I own one of the most successful eyelash businesses in all of Central Florida and I also train and certify artists/beauticians from all around the world.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning, my very first struggle was a language barrier. I was raised in Colombia and my first language is Spanish, so it was very challenging to find a job, plus I was very young so I felt like no one would take me seriously. When I did finally get a job, I took advantage of learning as much as I could throughout those years in order to be prepared to have my own business. Now that I am a small business owner, I face a lot of challenges of another magnitude. Hiring and managing employees, keeping track of inventory, customer satisfaction, etc. I don’t think it ever ends… but instead of looking at it as a struggle, I like to see it more as a lesson. Everyday brings new lessons for me and it just makes me think that I am better prepared for bigger goals that will come in the future.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love everything about Winter Park, especially the historic district, all the shops, amazing restaurants, beautiful parks, etc. What I like least about WP is that parking in Park Ave can be a struggle.
